Here is a brief comparison of the 2020 Hyundai Creta SX (O) and Kia Seltos GTX+. Both are the top-spec trims of the respective SUVs.

Hyundai Motor India Limited has recently launched the next-gen Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. The company had earlier expected to regain the ‘best-selling SUV’ crown from the Kia Seltos, but sadly, the coronavirus pandemic has put a wrench in that plan. Still, the Hyundai SUV packs quite a serious punch and has a lot on offer compared to the Seltos. Here, we shall briefly compare the top trims of both these SUVs- 2020 Hyundai Creta SX(O) and Kia Seltos GTX+.

2020 Hyundai Creta vs Kia Seltos - a brief comparison

First, let’s talk money. The introductory price for the Hyundai Creta starts at Rs. 9.99 lakh. The top- costs Rs. 17.20 for both the petrol and diesel model. The Kia Seltos, on the other hand, starts at Rs. 9.89 lakh. Its top-trim is priced at Rs. 17.29 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs. 17.34 for the diesel one. It can be seen that the Creta is slightly more affordable than the equivalent model of Seltos, even for the top trim.

Next, let’s discuss the equipment and tech on offer. Hyundai Creta features the company’s latest ‘BlueLink’ suite with 50+ connected car features. Kia Seltos offers UVO Connected Technology, which is not as impressive in comparison. Both cars get an air purifier and a sunroof, but Hyundai allows voice commands to operate them! The Creta also gets e-parking brake and paddle shifters (DCT only).

Both the SUVs feature the same engines- a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol. Power and torque figures are identical for the two. What aren’t identical are the transmission options. Hyundai Creta offers a 6-speed manual and a CVT gearbox on the 1.5-litre petrol SX (O) trim. On the top-trim diesel, you get a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic. The 1.4 turbo-petrol is only offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. As for the Seltos, its top trim offers a 6-speed manual as standard on all engines, including the 1.4 turbo-petrol as well. The automatic gearbox options remain the same- a 6-speed auto for the 1.5 diesel, a CVT for the 1.5 petrol, and a 7-speed DCT for the turbo-petrol.

Lastly, we shall discuss their driving dynamics. Even though the Seltos is an SUV, it is an extremely brilliant handler. This is partially due to its slightly stiff suspension setup. We expect the Hyundai Creta to have a mellower ride and handling combo, although the extent of the difference can only be gauged once we get our hands on one and we are allowed to drive on the streets!
