All-new Mahindra Thar is doing commendably well on the sales chart. The off-roader is receiving a warm response from the Indian audience as it managed to garner over 15,000 bookings since its launch on October 2. Also, the all-new Thar is managing to attract a lot of attention for itself across the social media platforms with its capabilities. Recently, a Mahindra patron shared a video on Twitter where a black Mahindra Thar can be seen drifting around on the loose surface. This clip got the attention of Mr Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra & Mahindra. He retweeted the video quoting “Now that’s NOT an ordinary test drive!”

This video clip is said to be recorded while a prospective customer took the all-new Thar off the road and performed a couple of power-slides and donuts during the test drive. The way Mr Mahindra responded to the video showcased his confidence in the product. In the second-gen iteration, the Thar has improved on a lot of aspects. It now comes with a new chassis, which is stronger than that used on the last-gen model. Also, it now boasts of improved approach angle, departure angle, and ramp-over angle. The ground clearance measures at 225 mm now.

On the inside, the all-new Thar comes with a lot of creature comfort. The list includes automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and satellite navigation, cruise control, and more. For the safety of occupants, it also gets dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, roll-over mitigation, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, seat belt reminder, high-speed alert, and rear parking sensors.

The Thar is now available with two engine options – 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel. The petrol motor is good enough to push out a peak power output of 150 Hp and max torque of 320 Nm. The diesel engine, on the other hand, pushes out a rated power and torque output of 130 Hp and 300 Nm, respectively. The gearbox options on the all-new Thar include a 6-speed stick shift and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Moreover, it comes fitted with a 4X4 transfer case with low-ratio gearbox and locking rear differential as standard fitment across the range.
