India's second largest automaker posted its best ever sales for the month of December. With new models like i20 just launching and more upcoming, 2021 looks to be a good one for Hyundai.
I think we can all agree that 2020 wasn’t the greatest of years. The Covid-19 global pandemic and the ensuing lockdown put a halt to everything, and the global economy took a big hit. But as lockdowns were relaxed, things started to bounce back and the Indian auto industry is one of them. Hyundai, India’s second-largest carmaker signed off the year in a positive style with an almost 25% increase in YoY sales for 2020. Its domestic sales figures of 47,400 units are the highest ever figures for the brand during the month of December. Including exports, the company sold 66,750 units, a YoY growth of over 33%. Also, by producing 71,178 units, Hyundai registered the highest ever single month production numbers since its inception.
Hyundai’s December 2020 milestones don’t only end there, its all-new i20 hatchback managed to sell 8,000 units in December. This number is only set to increase as it already sitting at more than 35,000 orders. Hyundai sold a total of 423,642 units in India alone during 2020, with total sales standing at 522,542 units. The Korean automaker became the fourth largest auto exporter from India after shipping 98,900 units. Hyundai India’s MD and CEO S.S. Kim stated that he is cautiously optimistic about the future and anticipate signs of market recovery in 2021.
Even though 2020 had been a tough year, Hyundai maintained a positive outlook with the launch of the all-new 20. With the third-gen model, Hyundai aims to raise the benchmark even higher with an all-new design language, even more features, and a multitude of engine-gearbox options. The new i20 is the first offering in India from the brand to sport the latest Sensuous Sportiness design language. Project LED and LED DRLs flank the new jewel pattern grille along with many wedge-shaped cuts and creases on the side profile, giving the car an aggressive stance. Moving to the rear, it get s new Z-shaped LED tail lamps bridged by a chrome strip instead of the LED lightbar found on the international models. Prices for the 2020 Hyundai i20 range from Rs 6.79 lakh – Rs 11.32 lakh, ex-showroom.
