Kia Seltos gets the option of an AWD layout in the international markets. Take a look at this video to know of its capabilities.
Kia Seltos is on sale in the Indian market for over a year now. The compact-SUV has been capable of helping the South-Korean carmaker in creating a strong brand value of the carmaker around the Indian audience. It is offered with multiple engine-gearbox options to fit almost everyone’s need. The Seltos is sold in the Indian market in FWD configuration only, but with terrain modes. The international-spec model, however, comes with an AWD layout, which also gets a lockable centre differential. Yes! It is obvious to wonder, how capable the AWD Kia Seltos is? In a quest to find out the answer, we came across a YouTube video from Engine Adventures, where the host can be seen taking the Kia Seltos AWD model off-road to check its true potential.
The host starts by explaining the AWD system’s functioning, as it comes with a lockable centre diff and a clutch pack that vectors the torque between the front and rear axles. Then the Seltos attempts the first obstacle, where it excels only after locking the centre diff and engaging the Sport mode. Next, the host takes it to a section of ruts, where he ends up overheating the transmission. With a decision to attempt the obstacle once the transmission cools down, the Seltos AWD makes it to the top with Sport mode engaged and centre differential locked. The host then concludes the video by claiming that Seltos is a capable AWD car for soft-roading in all-weather conditions. However, limited wheel travel is an issue as it becomes tough for tyres to find traction.
Well, it is pretty clear that in case you wish to go off the road quite often, a ladder-frame 4x4 SUV is a better deal. In the Indian market, the Seltos is offered with three engine options. The list starts with a 1.5L N/A petrol motor that puts out 115 PS and 144 Nm. It is available with a 6-speed MT and a CVT. A 1.5L oil burner is also a part of the list with power and torque output of 115 PS and 255 Nm, respectively. The gearbox choices for this engine include a 6-speed MT and 6-speed automatic. The last option on the list is a 1.4L turbo-petrol power plant that pushes out 140 PS and 242 Nm. It is available with either a 6-speed stick-shift or a 7-speed DCT.
