Take a look at this drag race between the diesel variants of Kia Sonet and Ford EcoSport. It must be noted that the former is the latest all-new vehicle to enter the sub-compact SUV segment while the latter is the oldest of the lot

The compact SUV segment is currently the most hotly contested one in the country. In this month itself, two new products have made an entry in this segment – Kia Sonet and Toyota Urban Cruiser. However, the latter only comes with a petrol heart. The Sonet, on the other hand, gets three engine options – 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo-petrol, and 1.5L turbo-diesel. It is the oil burner that boasts of the highest torque figures out of all the three available engine options. The higher torque figure is often associated with better acceleration. On the same note, we came across a video on the YouTube channel of Autowheels India, where they drag raced the diesel variant of Kia Sonet with the Ford EcoSport’s.

The race starts with the test for in-gear roll-on acceleration first. Both the cars start moving at a speed of 20 kmph and then the race begins. In this scenario, the Ford EcoSport outperforms the Sonet with a tiny gap. Then in the next attempt, the race starts from a standstill. Now, the Sonet takes the lead with a strong start and wins the race. Another attempt is made with similar rules, and an identical result is achieved.

Also, it is the Sonet that gets a powerful engine of the two. The 1.5L oil burner of the Sonet is capable of putting out a peak power output of 115 PS and 250 Nm. The Ford EcoSport’s diesel engine, however, puts out 100 PS and 215 Nm as its rated output.

Both of these SUVs are available with petrol engines as well. Kia Sonet offers the option of a 1.2L petrol and 1.0L turbo-petrol. The former develops 83 PS against 113 Nm, while the latter dishes out 120 PS and 172 Nm. Ford EcoSport, on the other hand, comes with a 1.5L naturally aspirated setup that develops 122 PS and 149 Nm.
