This Mahindra Thar features a lot of Jeep-inspired elements. Take a look at it to understand the tuner-friendly potential of the new-gen Mahindra Thar.
Mahindra Thar in its second-generation debuted on the Independence Day this year. The off-roader is yet to be launched in the Indian market, as it is slated to go on sale by October 2, 2020. In the new-gen avatar, Mahindra Thar looks a lot more modern and posher than what its earlier generation model was. Critics and purists, however, feel that the radiator grille is a downer on a beautiful design. But that isn’t of any major concern, as one can always fit in an aftermarket radiator grille. Here’s a picture of the new-gen Mahindra Thar, wherein it gets a new radiator grille along with some more tweaks to look alluring. We came across this digital rendering via the Instagram account of Ayush Dubey.
Talking of the modifications, the Thar in the pictures gets 7-slat radiator grille from Jeep Wrangler JL. It can be seen that the headlamps are pushed into the outer-most slats on either side as on the Wrangler JL. Furthermore, the stock front bumper has been replaced with a Jeep-like aluminium unit. The outer edges of the bumper can be removed to improve the approach angle. Also, the bumper now houses an electronic winch. On the sides, the size of the wheels has been increased, and they are now shod with A/T grade tyres. The OEM running board has been replaced with a tubular unit that also does the job of a rock slider.
Talking of the specifications, all-new Mahindra Thar will go on sale with 2 engine options – 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel. The 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor will push out a peak power output of 150 PS and max torque of 320 Nm. The oil burner, on the other hand, will dish out a rated power and torque output of 130 PS and 300 Nm, respectively. Both of these engines will be offered with 2 transmission options – 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT. Also, the new-gen Mahindra Thar will be offered in 4X4 layout as standard with a low-range transfer case and mechanically locking rear differential. However, the brake-locking front differential will be offered as an option.
