Here’s a small mileage test between Tata Nexon diesel and Ford EcoSport diesel. Watch the video embedded below to know amazing results.
The sub-4-meter SUV segment is the most crowded and hottest car segment in India. There are nine different SUVs in this space, which are competing with each other. More carmakers like Jeep and Citroen are also planning to enter this segment. Nevertheless, this segment is mainly dominated by petrol-only models. Out of nine SUVs, only five cars are offered with an option of a diesel mill like Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Ford EcoSport. If you are looking out for a diesel SUV in the sub-4-meter SUV space, this simply means that mileage is one of your main priorities.
So, here’s a recent mileage comparison video between Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. Both SUVs are quite popular in this segment are among the top-sellers. Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel unit, which puts out power and torque outputs of 108bhp and 126 Nm. Transmission duties are done by a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AMT. On the other hand, the Ford EcoSport is propelled by a 1.5-litre four-pot oil-burner, which is capable of shredding out 100bhp of peak power and 215 Nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 5-speed MT. So on paper, Tata Nexon has the upper hand in terms of specifications. Both SUVs in this video are diesel-powered.
The first step is to reset the average mileage reading in the instrument cluster of both SUVs to zero. Afterwards, both the vehicles set out for a test run for about 27km, driving it on mixed conditions highways as well as on crowded roads. At the end of the mileage test run, the Ford EcoSport offered 17.7kmpl of mileage, while the Tata SUV returned 11.2kmpl of fuel-efficiency. As mentioned in the video, the Tata Nexon was in sport mode. The Ford EcoSport is rated to offer an ARAI certified mileage of 21.7kmpl, while the Tata Nexon offers an ARAI certified mileage of 21.5kmpl.
