The only example of Mahindra Thar Wanderlust that the carmaker has sold was spotted on the roads a while ago. Doesn't it look totally captivating?

Mahindra discontinued the Thar from the Indian car market sometime last year. The carmaker rolled off the last set of 700 units of the car in May 2019, which were the only Thars ever produced with the company-fitted ABS. Thar has been a product close to Mahindra’s heart and the carmaker has always showcased a special version of the SUV at different motor shows. At the 2018 Auto Expo, the carmaker showcased the Wanderlust edition of the offroader. The manufacturer also announced that it will be available for purchase but only on special orders. However, Mahindra could only receive just one order for the car and this is how it looked on the roads when it was spotted a while back

These pictures are from Udaipur when the car was on its way to delivery to its owner – Maharaj Kumar Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar. Talking of the modification and changes, it is hard to find of any resemblance to a Thar, apart from the 7-slat grille. It wears a matte-brown paint scheme with camouflage-like graphics. It also gets a hardtop, unlike the soft-top that comes on the stock version. Also, the rear seats can be accessed through the gullwing-styled doors that come with fixed windows.

The bonnet on the Wanderlust edition is also new and comes with a farm jack mounted right over it. It features LED headlamps with a full-round element for the dual-function LED DRLs. The wheel arches are flared as well to house the massive 33-inch MT tyres shod on steel wheels. To take care of the higher centre of gravity, the wheels have been set at a negative value for the camber. Use of bright-yellow highlights can also be seen on the snorkel and the wheel rims. The bumpers have been replaced with off-road spec ones with beefier tow shackles.

The Wanderlust Edition is highly capable off-road and is much better a car for daily drives as well.

The cost of this modification was fixed at Rs. 13.8 lakhs over the price of the donor vehicle. However, it is not available on sale anymore, since the car has been discontinued from the Indian market. The good news is, however, that Mahindra will soon introduce the next-gen Thar in the country. It will be based on a new platform and will come with more powerful engines.
