Maruti S Presso (Vxi, Vxi +): From Rs 3.71 lakh

Maruti S Presso is the latest brand-new car model to enjoy the Maruti clan. Living up to the expectation of India’s biggest car manufacturer, the Maruti S Presso has quickly attracted a large following.

Maruti S Presso 

This cross-like hatchback is positioned at the pricing range from Rs 3.71 lakh to Rs 4.99 lakh. Maruti S-Presso is offered in four variants, Std, Lxi, Vxi and Vxi+. However, the 5-speed automatic version is only available from the top-spec VXi upwards. At the moment, the Maruti S Presso is powered by a BSVI-compliant 1.0-litre petrol engine which can churn out 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque. The standard transmission is a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The automatic version is priced from Rs 4.75 lakh to Rs 4.99 lakh. Being the top-spec variant, the Maruti S Presso also features more upmarket features like 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto Expo 2020 and Apple Carplay, digital information cluster, voice control.

Hyundai Santro (Magna, Sport): From Rs 5.52 lakh

Next on the list is Hyundai Santro, a rival of Maruti S Presso. The revival of the iconic Santro brand has proved to be a smart move for Hyundai. At launch, it registered considerable share in the market but it could not hold the grip and starts to fall behind, especially after the launch of new Maruti Wagon R.

Hyundai Santro AMT is available from the Magna upwards

Hyundai Santro is only available with a BSVI-ready 1.1-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which generates 69 PS of power and 99 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The petrol-automatic powertrain is available on the Magna and Sport. The prices of these AMT models starts from Rs 5.52 lakh (ex-showroom). Recently, the automatic option is also added to the top-spec Asta variant, lifting the maximum price for AMT Hyundai Santro up to Rs 6.25 lakh. Maruti Wagon R (Vxi, Zxi): From Rs 5.37 lakh

Maruti Wagon R is a popular hatchback in the budget car segment. This car has been well-appreciated thanks to its value for money quality and high practicality. After receiving its update last year, Maruti Wagon now comes with two petrol engines, a 1.0-litre and a 1.2-litre engine. The former is capable of making 83PS and 113Nm while the latter can generate 68 PS and 90 Nm. Maruti offers a manual and automatic option for both engines. The AMT option is offered on the VXI and ZXI with the price ranging from Rs 5.37 lakh and Rs 5.94 lakh.

Maruti Wagon R AMT is available for both engine options

The new Maruti Wagon R also comes with better features including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, manual AC, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs as well as rear washer and wiper, 60:40 split rear seats and front fog lamps.

Maruti Celerio: From Rs 5.23 lakh

Maruti Celerio is another choice that fits the price filter of 6 lakhs for automatic cars. Earlier, Maruti has updated the Celerio to come to terms with the upcoming BSVI. The BSVI update has slightly hiked up the price of Rs 15,000 over the previous version.  

The automatic option is available across the range of Maruti Celerio 

The power derives from a 1.0-litre petrol engine which can generate a top power of 68 PS and a maximum torque of 90 Nm. Besides the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, the Maruti Celerio is also offered with an AMT gearbox. Especially, the AMT option is offered across the variants. Maruti Celerio AMT is priced from Rs 5.23 lakh and Rs 5.48 lakh.

Maruti Alto K10 (Vxi): From Rs 4.38 lakh

Maruti Alto K10 is a great car that offers an automatic option below 6 lakh. But soon, the Alto K10 will be discontinued ahead of the April 2020.

Maruti Alto K10 offers AMT option for the VXI variant only

Maruti Alto K10 was available in three variants, LX, LXi and VXi and only VXi is the only trims that come with the 5-speed manual AMT gearbox. The VXi AMT is priced at Rs 4.38 lakh (ex-showroom). Besides the AMT, the Alto K10 has a 5-speed manual standard transmission. The Alto K10 gets a 1.0-litre K-Series motor that churns out 68 PS of maximum power and 90 Nm of peak torque.

Renault Kwid (Rxt, Climber): From Rs 4.72 lakh

Renault Kwid is competing against Maruti Alto K10, Maruti S Presso and Datsun Redi Go in the space of entry-level hatchback. At the moment, the automatic option is offered on the top-spec RXT and Climber trim. There are two engine options available across the range. However, the automatic gearbox is only offered with the 1.0-litre engine. Price of the automatic range goes from Rs 4.72 lakh to 5.01 lakh.

Renault Kwid

Renault Kwid must be among the best-equipped models in the lot. Some highlight features offered on the top-spec variants include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, power steering, manual AC, reverse parking camera, rear-seat armrest, front wiper, and 12V charger for the rear row.
