2020 Land Rover Defender India Launch Expected In June 2020

Land Rover unveiled the 2020 Defender at IAA-2019 in September to the masses, and the car is now speculated to be launched in India by June 2020.

The British manufacturer, Land Rover is known for producing some of the most capable and luxurious SUVs. It recently showcased the new 2020 Defender to the masses, and the car is already on its way to India. That, however, it isn’t going to be very soon. Instead, the car is currently rumoured to be launched in June 2020. Land Rover Defender is expected to come via CBU route, and there isn’t any confirmation about the plans to have it here via CKD route as of now. Currently, Land Rover assembles Discovery Sport and Evoque in India, and Defender might also join this list if it attracts a respectable demand.

2020 Land Rover Defender is speculated for launch by June 2020.

The Defender has never been officially on sale in the country, but enthusiasts with deep pockets have already had their hands on this machine by importing them privately. Now, with Defender being a global model, Land Rover patrons will get a chance to buy and use the car without any hassle.

The 2020 Defender is an all-new car in comparison to the last-gen Defender. Based on Land Rover’s D7x platform, the 2020 Defender has managed to retain its old-school charm with a similar design approach coupled with a sense of modern-ness. It has retained the signature Alpine roof, slap-on body panels, and protruding shoulder line, which is hunched in a way to mimic the old Defender. Also, the Defender is offered in two different versions; a three-door, short-wheelbase (90-inch) variant, and a five-door, long-wheelbase (110-inch) variant, called Defender 90 and Defender 110 respectively.

Land Rover will launch both the variants of the Defender, the Defender 90 (3-door version) and Defender 110 (5-door version).

To power this true-blue British off-roading machine, Land Rover will let the owners choose from 4 different engine options, apart from a plug-in-hybrid powertrain that is scheduled for an introduction in late 2020. A 300PS petrol motor, a 400PS petrol motor, a 200PS diesel engine, and a 240PS diesel engine are the available powertrain options.

Even on the inside, the Defender has retained the old-school charm, but this time around, it comes equipped with all sorts of creature comfort available in any luxury SUV. The flat-top dashboard made out of magnesium and wood inserts on the door panels and centre console also gives the interior a tactile and hardcore feel, contrasted by Land Rover’s next-generation Pivi Pro based 10-inch infotainment system is present in the centre console.

With an expected price tag of Rs. 85 lakh for the 110 variant and Rs. 70 lakh for the 110 variant, Defender will take on a direct competition against the likes of Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes-Benz G250. A First Edition will also be launched here in India, which will the most expensive offering from Land Rover under Defender brand, with an expected price tag of Rs. 1.05 Crore.
