2021 Jeep Cherokee L Revealed in US, Indian Launch Expected Soon

2021 Jeep Cherokee L was revealed in the US market. This new model of the Grand Cherokee is expected to arrive in our market sometime in 2022. Here are all the details of the new-gen Jeep Cherokee L.

Recently, 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L was unveiled in the USA market. The SUV is among the most popular vehicles of Jeep on the global market. The fifth-gen Grand Cherokee was launched with the new suffix “L” on its name, suggesting at the new three-row configuration of this model. Up to this point, only the three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L was revealed. It is expected that the two-row version and a plug-in hybrid will be introduced later this year.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L was introduced with comprehensive updates 

New-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee L comes with a brand new exterior and interior design. In addition, the interior of the new Grand Cherokee is also fitted with various new technologies. Moreover, it also gets various 4x4 drive modes.

Exteriorly, the Grand Cherokee carries forwards various design cues from the Grand Wagoneer concept which was unveiled last year. The Grand Cherokee still remains its distinctive styling but with a few minor updates. For example, the fifth-gen Grand Cherokee features a new pronounced front hood, smaller grille, new LED headlights, and revised front bumper. On the side profile, it should be noted that the SUV now gets massive and sleek 21-inch alloy wheels. For the rest of the design, the Grand Cherokee looks neat and sharp. It is completed with a floating roof and thin taillight wraps.

On the new-gen Grand Cherokee, not only the exterior but the interior also undergoes a complete makeover. There is a new multi-function steering wheel, a comprehensively revised dashboard layout, and a brand new centre console. Other than these cosmetic updates, there are also notable enhancements in terms of materials, including new leather, metal and wood applique. The most significant update of the cabin must be the new 10.0-inch UConnect 5 touchscreen infotainment system. It is loaded with many technologies and connectivity features, including Apple Carplay and Android Auto. In addition, it gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, 19-speaker McIntosh sound system and a dual-panel sunroof. In order to improve the comfort of the car, the new Grand Cherokee L is now fitted with night vision camera, 360-degree camera, a head-up display, drowsiness detection, adaptive cruise control and level-3 autonomous driving system.

Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers a wide range of off-road setting options

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered with two engine options, a 3.6-litre petrol V6 engine and a 5.7-litre petrol V8. While the former is capable of making 290hp and 350Nm, the latter is strong enough for 357hp and 530Nm. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is offered as standard across the range. 2WD and 4x4 drive system are available as options. Moreover, there’re also three types of 4x4 drive system on offer, including Quadratrac I, Quadratrac II, and Quadra-Drive II with rear electric limited-slip differential. The Quadra-Lift adaptive air suspension system is available as optional with five modes, Normal, Off-road 1, Off-road 2, Park and Aero.

On different modes, the suspension system will be adjusted to optimize the performance to fit different terrains. In the Normal mode, the Cherokee features a standard ground clearance of 212mm. In 'Off-road 2' mode, it is raised to the maximum height of 276mm while on 'Aero' mode, the ground clearance is lowered to 192mm. To diverse the off-road setting options, there are other five terrain modes, including auto, sport, rock, snow and mud/sand.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L features a water wading depth of up to 610mm, an approach angle of 30.1-degrees, a departure angle of 23.6-degrees, and 22.6-degree breakover angle.

It is expected that the Grand Cherokee L will hit the India shores by early 2022. Price of this model might be priced from Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom).
