The all-new Maruti Alto will flaunt a whole new look, strongly inspired by the Concept Future S. It is expected to be available in petrol only.

Maruti Suzuki is on the way to refresh its whole production line-up. Following the generation updates on the Ertiga and Wagon R last year, the Indo-Japanese manufacturer will continue to work on upgrading the Ciaz sedan, Baleno as well as the entry-level hatchback Alto.

At the centre of this renewing movement, Maruti’s major drive is to adjust their line-up to meet the upcoming safety and emission regulation. As a result, Maruti-badged models will receive major updates on their engine range as well as their safety features. Maruti Alto is not an exception.

To be in line with the upcoming BSVI emission norms, Maruti might rule out the diesel trims on the Alto, the same thing happens to various Maruti models recently. On the realization of the high cost of updating diesel engine to be BSVI-compliant, Maruti Alto has decided to exclude the diesel variants in various models, for example, Maruti Swift, Baleno and Dzire. Instead of renewing the diesel engine in response to the new emission norms, Maruti will make the best of what they have and shift the focus to its petrol range. Maruti Alto, as per reason, is not likely to get a new diesel engine.

The old 0.8-litre petrol engine will be replaced by a BSVI-compliant 1.0-litre unit

Sitting on the entry-level segment, Maruti Alto’s range has been restricted to the petrol engine only. On the ongoing generation, Maruti Alto comes with the 0.8-litre engine only. And the 2019 Alto will get powertrain updates but there will not be the inclusion of a new diesel engine. In lieu of the old 0.8-litre petrol engine, Alto will be packed with a bigger 1.0-litre petrol engine which is updated to meet the BSVI norms. This petrol motor will be mated to either a manual or an automatic gearbox.

Apart from the engine updates, the Alto will revamp its structure with a strengthened body panel as well as an extended safety list. The 2019 Alto will also gain the new HEARTECT platform. Alongside, it will take on a novel look, appearing to be inspired by the Future S Concept micro SUV. With the new micro SUV shell, the Alto might reach out to a new segment and possibly rival the Mahindra KUV100 and production Tata H2X.
