All-new Skoda Rapid Spotted Undisguised In China

It is not a secret that Skoda is currently working on the next-gen Rapid sedan, which is set to make its Indian launch for some time in 2021. The Czech automotive brand’s global sedan that sits below the Skoda Octavia has been spotted undisguised in China recently. The new spy shots surfaced online has revealed a lot about the 2020 Skoda Rapid.

The Skoda Rapid is expected to be launched in India in 2021.

It is worth noting that although the all-new version of the Rapid sedan will be launched in the Indian market soon, it will deviate from the Chinese-spec model in its appearance.

That said, the new upcoming Skoda Rapid, which was caught on camera in China, is developed on Volkswagen’s MQB platform while the India-spec Rapid will be based on a locally-developed architecture codenamed MQB-A0-IN. That’s why the Indian version will bear a slight difference in its design compared to the global model. Still, we are pretty sure that the India-spec Rapid will be immensely inspired by the new global spec vehicle. The MQB-A0-IN platform developed by Skoda will also underpin a range of cars comprising the Volkswagen T-Cross, new VW Polo, next-gen Vento and Skoda Kamiq.

The new-gen Rapid has been spotted sans camourflage in China, revealing its exterior look.

Pictures of the new Skoda Rapid tell us that the new-gen sedan will get a fresh exterior and interior design all over. It will feature a host of cosmetic changes on the outside, including a new grille with thick chrome surrounds at the front, new sleeker LED headlamps, repositioned fog lamps with sleek housings that are largely inspired by the 2020 Skoda Octavia. At the rear, the all-new Rapid packs an Octavia-inspired design for the tail lamps and a new boot lid.

The all-new Rapid will borrow a bunch of design cues from the 2020 Skoda Octavia.

The exhausts now are mounted on the bumper. Side profile of the new car also comes with newly-designed alloy wheels. The top-spec Rapid even gets dual-tone precision-cut units. We can also see a sunroof on the new Rapid, one that is well-received by the Indian car enthusiasts these days.

The 2020 Skoda Rapid is longer and wider than the current-gen model that could translate into more space and comfort in effect. Despite having no pictures of the cabin of the car as yet, it will experience a thorough update for sure. It will more likely to get a completely new dashboard design featuring a handful of goodies and gadgets. There will be a new touchscreen infotainment system in place. The high-end variant will even get leather-wrapped seats along with many other premium bits.

The upcoming new-gen Skoda Rapid will employ both petrol and diesel engines under the bonnet. The Chinese-spec car might come with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol mill only, outputting 110 PS of max power and 150 Nm of torque. Mechanical details about the India-spec Rapid remains unknown but it is expected to get a new BSVI-compliant unit.
