Tata Motors is set to introduce the pure electric 45X concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show next month. The EV will be launched officially in early 2021.

The domestic manufacturer, Tata Motors is scheduled to bring on the 45X concept SUV at the Geneva Motor Show, which takes place in March. This new concept is underpinned by the company's Common Modular Platform (CMP) or Alfa-Arc. The upcoming premium hatchback will spawn an all-electric variant, which will have a driving range of 220-250 km.

Speaking about the electric efficiency, the president of Electric Mobility and Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors, Sailesh Chandra has stated,

After talking to customers and certain entities which are voluntary groups in the electric mobility space, we have come to a conclusion that anywhere between 220km and 250km is an optimum range to give. Technically it's possible to give 300-400km range even without going for a dedicated platform. Then the price increases to the extent that it would not make sense.

Sailesh Chandra has stated that 220km and 250km driving range is quite ideal

Accordingly, the driving range of 220-250 km is said to be ideal. Meanwhile, Tata Tigor EV which will be available for the private customers in 2020, on the other hand, only can make a driving range of 130 km (MIDC).

Chandra has also commented about the private market as restated below.

“If aspirational electric vehicles for personal buyers are not made available, consumers might start stigmatising EVs as vehicles only for the fleet purpose.”

He also added,

“The primary market (for EVs) for the next 4-5 years is going to be fleet, but we want to focus on overall adoption of electrification including in the private segment. This is what we want to drive.”

In a move to capture in the EV market, Tata has planned on a three-pronged strategy, in which, the latest strategy is to convert cars with IC engines into EVs with that said, “optimised range, price and performance”. The automaker has gradually adopted the micro market approach to build the business at the scope of 20 to 25 cities which are considered to be conducive for electric mobility.
