Last month, Hyundai has become the best-selling manufacturer of the SUV segment in India

Hyundai Motor India is the second largest car manufacturer in the India market, standing just behind the market-leading Maruti Suzuki. However, the car market has seen a significant turn last month. In the surging segment of SUVs, Hyundai has overthrown Maruti Suzuki to become the biggest SUV provider. The South Korean car manufacturer could turn the table thanks to the overwhelming success of the newly launched Hyundai Venue.

Hyundai Venue has helped Hyundai to increase its share in the SUV segment

In July, Hyundai has delivered 16,234 units of utility vehicles while Maruti has dispatched 15,178 units. Mahindra and Mahindra is also a key player in the SUV space. Last month, the homegrown company has garnered the sales of 16,003 units by the virtue of Mahindra XUV300’s launch.

Prior to the launch of the Hyundai Venue, Hyundai has already enjoyed considerably huge popularity with the segment-leading Hyundai Creta in the compact SUV space. On average, Hyundai sells around 8,000 units of the Creta per month. The South Korean carmaker has planned to expand its influence in the SUV segment by introducing the Hyundai Venue, its first SUV in the sub-four meter SUV. This new SUV has taken the market by storm. The Venue has amassed a total 50,000 bookings of late. Last month, 9585 units of Hyundai Venue were delivered to the buyers. On the other hands, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV300, two key SUV models from two major SUV providers registered the sales of 5,032 units and 4,464 units, respectively.

Thanks to the launch of Mahindra XUV300, Mahindra has successfully climbed back the chart

Before Maruti Suzuki took the throne, it was Mahindra who led the utility vehicle segment. Maruti Suzuki’s success is contributed to the launch of the well-loved Maruti Brezza which has ruled the sub-four-meter SUV space ever since its launch. Mahindra had kept losing out to Maruti Suzuki regardless of its several attempts, from the TUV300 to KUV100, to revive its popularity until the launch of the Mahindra XUV300. With the good-looking and well-equipped XUV300, Mahindra has managed to attract a host of new customers, hence restoring its previous prevalence in the market.

Hyundai can climb up the SUV sales chart mostly thanks to the success of the Venue. Another reason is probably the slump in sales from Maruti Brezza’s side. Maruti has announced that they will soon put an end to the diesel Maruti Brezza ahead of the BSVI emission norms, which has substantially impacted the sales. Last month, the sales of Brezza has dropped by 36 per cent. To get on top of the situation, Maruti will launch the petrol version of the Brezza in the upcoming months.
