Jeep has witnessed poor sales in India in February 2020, but has still managed to outperform VW’s entire lineup with its single regular-production model, Jeep Compass.

FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) has had a disappointing run in India last year, with Fiat shutting down all operations in the country. However, its sister brand, Jeep, has had a better run, with the Compass SUV still going decently strong in India.

Jeep Compass sales February 2020

Jeep Compass is the only regular-production model of the brand in India

In February 2020, Jeep India has managed to sell a total of 666 units of the Compass. Superstitions aside, Jeep also sells the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in India, but those are special order CBU imports with no sales volume in recent times. This is a poor number for the company and a 5.4% decline in sales as compared to last month. In January 2020, the company had managed to sell 704 units of the Compass. Also, the latest sales figure is nearly half the sales Jeep had last year in February 2019 (1,351 units), out of which, the majority sales were brought in by the Compass (1,304 units). This amounts to a decline of 50.8% on a year-on-year basis for the company.

Although Jeep’s sales have been disappointing in itself, the current sales slump in the Indian Automotive industry has ensured that other manufacturers are also feeling the pinch. In fact, the Compass has managed to outsell the entire line-up of Volkswagen India (350 units), which includes cars like VW Polo, Vento, Ameo, and Tiguan, selling 144, 143, 36, and 27 units, resepectively.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk review | IndianAutosBlog

Earlier this year in January, Jeep had introduced two new trim levels of the Compass, namely ‘Longitude’ and ‘Limited Plus’. Both these variants feature a BSVI-compliant 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (Multijet II) engine paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Power is transferred to all the four wheels via a full-time All-wheel-drive system.

"We are strengthening and expanding the Jeep Compass range with the introduction of four diesel automatic variants, of which, the base and top-end variant will available to consumers right away,"

"This roll out has also given us the opportunity to offer our locally-made BSVI-compliant 2.0-litre turbo-diesel powertrain to consumers much before the statutory deadline,"

Jeep is also planning to launch a 7-seater version of the Compass in India, along with a new sub-4-metre compact-SUV. The latter was earlier expected to be the Jeep Renegade, but now it seems like it will be an absolutely new vehicle. The company is also working on a facelift for the Jeep Compass, expected to be launched later this year.
