As the result of Mahindra and SsangYong's split, Mahindra is expected to axe its flagship car, the Mahindra Alturas G4 soon.

Some reports suggest that Mahindra might pull the plug of the Mahindra Alturas G4 in the following year. Launched in November 2018, Mahindra Alturas G4 is currently the flagship model on Mahindra’s line-up. Two years’ time is too short for a life cycle of a car model. However, the end of this car model is unavoidable due to the anticipated split between Mahindra & Mahindra and Ssangyong.

In the beginning, Mahindra Alturas G4 was introduced as the India-spec version of the Ssangyong Rexton which is currently on sale in select markets across the globe. At that point, Mahindra was still the major shareholder of the South Korean company. However, earlier this year, Mahindra made it clear that it is planning for an exit from Ssangyong. This latest development in Mahindra-SsangYong relationship also suggests at an imminent end of the Mahindra Alturas G4.

Mahindra is reported to have enough components and materials to build 500 units of the Alturas G4. After the materials run out, the production of the Alturas G4 will come to an end. Currently, the premium SUV is assembled at Mahindra’s plant as Completely Knocked Down units (CKD). Since mid-2019, the production of the Mahindra Alturas G4 was moved to the Mahindra’s plant in Chakan.

This engine is powerful enough to churn out 181 BHP of top power and a 420 NM of maximum torque. It is mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. After receiving these updates, the powertrain of the Alturas G4 gets a slightly higher fuel mileage.
