Maruti Celerio BS6 Now More Than Rs 60,000 Cheaper Than Wagon R

With Rs 53,000 shelved off the base price, the Maruti Celerio is now more than Rs 60,000 cheaper than the Wagon R

It has come to light that Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country's biggest carmaker, is offering discounts of up to Rs 53,000 on the BS6 Celerio. So, what this means is that the Celerio is now cheaper than the Wagon R by Rs 61,000! The more upmarket tallboy is being offered with a cash discount of Rs 30,000, an exchange bonus of Rs 20,000 and a corporate discount of Rs 3,000.

In total, Maruti is offering Rs 53,000 discount with BSVI Celerio.

Basically, the starting price of Maruti Celerio is Rs 4.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and after subtracting Rs 53,000, the effective price of the base model turns out to be just Rs 3.88 lakh. On the other hand, prices of Maruti WagonR start at Rs 4.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which means right now, Celerio is Rs 61,000 cheaper than the Wagon R.

Mechanically, the Maruti Celerio derives power from a 998 cc, three-cylinder petrol mill that produces 67 bhp of max. power and 90 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed MT and AMT. Even the Maruti WagonR is propelled by the same 998 cc petrol engine as the Celerio. It also gets the same set of transmissions. However, it's also available with a more powerful 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit, which churns out 82 bhp of power and 113 Nm of twisting force. Even here, the transmission options include a 5-speed MT and AMT. As compared to Maruti Celerio, Wagon R has an advantage of being underpinned by the more advanced HEARTECT platform, along with being available with the option of a more powerful motor.

Maruti Celerio comes loaded with features like power windows, steering-mounted audio and telephone controls, integrated audio system with Bluetooth connectivity option and multi-info display. On the other hand, Maruti WagonR features a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, power windows and steering mounted controls. Both the hatchbacks come with dual front airbags, ABS, ISOFIX child seat restraints and front SBR as standard fitments.
