Maruti Ertiga XL6 Becomes One Of The Best-selling MPV In India

Maruti Suzuki has always been recognized for its dominant status in the Indian automobile market. Most of its products are topping sales charts in different segments across the market. Recently, the Indo-Japanese car manufacturer has expanded its presence in the utility vehicle space with the launch of its second MPV, Maruti XL6. Shortly after launch, Maruti XL6 has become one of the hottest MPVs in India. With both Maruti Ertiga and Maruti XL6, Maruti, without doubt, is the strongest brand in the MPV space.

Maruti Ertiga and Maruti XL6 are among the best-selling MPVs in India

Last month, 6,284 units of the Maruti Ertiga was retailed while the Maruti XL6’s sales figure stood at 3,840 units. When combined, the two MPV had a total sales volume of 10,124 units. Together, Maruti’s MPVs are triumphing every other MPV in the segment. Toyota Innova Crysta which is also a best-selling MPV in India had 4,225 units sold last month, meaning that it sold less than the Ertiga and outsold the newly-launched Maruti XL6. Another new player in the segment, Renault Triber is also selling in good number. In September, Renault sold 4,710 units of the Triber, which even excels the Toyota Innova Crysta's sales. However, the Triber is positioned as a more affordable MPV than mentioned MPV. Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy’s sales volumes stand at 892 units and 78 units, respectively.

Maruti XL6 is now available on sale via NEXA dealership

Based on the Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6 is positioned as a more premium alternative to the Ertiga. Consequently, Maruti XL6 was retailed through a premium NEXA outlets while Maruti Ertiga continues to be sold via Arena dealership network. To denote its upmarket positioning, the Maruti XL6 is equipped with more features. Exterior wise, the XL6 is added with full LED headlights and more. On the inside, the new MPV gets a 6-seater setting with two captain seats for the second row. Maruti XL6 also edges out the Ertiga with leather upholstery seats.

Apart from these exterior and interior updates, the Maruti XL6 is offered with a different powertrain option. While Maruti Ertiga is available with both diesel and engine variants, the XL6 is exclusively powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with SHVS mild-hybrid setting. Due to the upcoming BSVI emission norms, Maruti starts to limit the use of diesel engine across the range. For that reason, all of its new models will be offered with petrol engines only.
