MG Motor’s first SUV for India, the MG Hector will officially go on sale in May 2019. Recently, a new media report reveals that the SUV will be mass produced at the SAIC-owned facility in Halol, Gurajat from April 28.

At the moment, the Chinese-owned British automaker, MG Motor is busy preparing for the launch of the first-ever Hector SUV for the Indian market. As the launch is reaching closer, the company will begin the mass production of the SUV towards the end of this month (April 28, 2019) at Halol plant, Guarajat.

MG Motor India will start the mass production of the Hector SUV in India from April 28.

Visually, the MG Hector turns out to be a reminiscent of the China-spec Baojun 530 SUV in relation to the aesthetical aspect. In fact, it is basically a re-engineered version of the Baojun 530 and the design is largely identical to the Chinese sibling. From the beginning, the all-new Hector SUV will be sold in a five-seat configuration. It gets split headlamps with LED daytime running lights mounted lower on the front facade, which is, without doubt, quite much of a trend in the niche SUVs segment in recent time. It also gets a large chrome mesh upper grille along with diamond-cut alloy wheels and faux front-rear skid plates that are added to differentiate the car from the original China-spec model.

On the inside, the upcoming MG Hector takes huge inspiration from the Wuling Amaz SUV which just took off its covers in Indonesia some months ago. The Hector’s cabin is fitted to the gills with a long list of advanced connected fitments. Specifically, the comfort features of the car encompass a 6-way electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, a Harman Infinity audio system, 360-degree view camera, keyless entry, engine start push-button, cruise control and a tire pressure monitoring system. Meanwhile, the connectivity package includes a first-in-segment 10.4-inch portrait-styled touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay supports, an in-built SIM for Internet connection, AI-powered Voice Assistance, pre-loaded applications and the ability to receive OTA updates.

Under the hood, the first MG’s SUV will be embedded with a 143 hp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine option. Both these above units will come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox while the turbo-petrol variant gets an optional 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission too. Moreover, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system is also on offer that is claimed to be 12% more frugal than the petrol configuration. Expecting the price of the new Hector to sit between Rs 15-20 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).

MG has started setting up 50 dealerships with 120 touchpoints before Hector’s launch in India. At launch, the SUV will fare against some similar models like Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier among others. In the not-too-distant future, MG Motor will establish one city-one dealer set-up across the country except for Mumbai and some other cities.
