After months of media hype and expectations, the much-awaited MG’s first SUV for the Indian market, the MG Hector will have its prices announced on June 27 during the course of its official launch. Bookings for the new SUV have already started for a token amount of Rs 50,000 while the test drives programme has been kicked off recently at the dealer levels.

The MG Hector has been revealed in all its glory to the public on May 15 while the launch has been confirmed for June 27, 2019.

Based on the global model Baojun 530, the British-branded Hector marks the first footprint of the Chinese automobile group in India. For months, the MG Hector has been at the centre of the attention since it’s advocated as the first-ever “Internet-on-the-drive” SUV in the domestic auto space. It is alleged to feature a long list of advanced connected services, something that, interestingly, is claimed on the upcoming Kia Seltos too.

However, while the new Kia Seltos comes up with 37 connectivity features on the table, the Hector seems to tower over the former with as many as 50 connected applications on offer. Some leading-edge features like a big panoramic sunroof or innovative voice assistants totally give the Hector a competitive edge over its adversaries. In the current market, the MG Hector will compete aggressively against the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and of course, the recently-unveiled Kia Seltos SUV.

Prices of the MG Hector will be officially announced at launch, but we can expect the SUV to be positioned at around Rs 13- 20 Lakh (ex-showroom).

The all-new MG Hector will be available with both petrol and diesel motor options- a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine making 143 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque, alongside a 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced Multijet II turbocharged oil burner tuned for 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. In particular, the petrol-MT powertrain also gets a segment-first 48-volt mild-hybrid system that will be 1.65 kmpl more economical (in the combined fuel mileage) as claimed by the British brand.
