New-Gen Mahindra Thar To Be Revealed Tomorrow

The all-new Mahindra will derive power from two different engine options. Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Force Gurkha and upcoming Suzuki Jimny.

The new-gen Mahindra Thar is all-set to make its global debut tomorrow. The all-new model will come with new styling highlights, modern cabin and a new set of engine options. The automaker has an aim to make the new-gen Mahindra Thar a cult brand in India. The upcoming 2020 Mahindra Thar will be based on the company’s new GEN3 platform, which also underpins the Scorpio and TUV300. The off-roader will also grow in size, which means the new SUV offers a more spacious cabin. Looking at the recent spy pictures, one can see that new off-roader has retained its traditional design language.

Front-side-and-inside-look-of-the-SUV

Upfront, it gets the conventional seven-slat grille, round headlamps and new bumper. The SUV retains its boxy design along with new flared wheel arches. The 2020 Mahindra Thar is likely to run on a new set of 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels. Moreover, inside, the off-roader will come loaded with a lot of new features, which were missing in the previous-gen Thar. It’ll feature a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, hill descent control, roof-mounted speakers, driver and passenger airbags, new MID unit, traction control, automatic climate control, traction control, leather upholstery and much more. The all-new Mahindra Thar will be offered with soft-top and hard-top versions.

The top-spec trims of the off-roader will likely to feature front-facing seats. Mechanically, the SUV will be offered with two different powertrain options- a 2.2-litre mHawk oil-burner and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged gasoline motor. The former puts out 138bhp of peak power, while the latter produces a power output of 187bhp. Transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed MT or a torque converter automatic gearbox. The all-new Mahindra Thar is expected to be slightly pricier than the old-gen model. It is likely to be priced between Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Force Gurkha and upcoming Suzuki Jimny.
