New Mahindra Thar Bagging A Booking Every Minute Since Launch

After a long time of waiting, the 2020 Mahindra Thar has finally launched in the Indian market on October 2. Less than one week after launch, Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that they have received over 9,000 bookings for the new Thar. Quick calculations show that on an average, 5 bookings are being made every 4 minutes, which translates to at least 1 booking every minute.

The impressive booking number comes as no surprise since the Mahindra Thar has been garnered special attention from the Indian customers long before it hits the market. Fans of this iconic off-roader are so excited about the new model that they send booking request as soon as the order books open, despite the fact that, in the beginning, the test drive models are only available on 18 select cities across India.

Commenting on the initial success of the Mahindra Thar, Veejay Nakra, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, said,

According to him, with 9,000 bookings within a few days, Mahindra Thar has set a new record for the segment. He also shares that the company will try to provide the demo models in more cities, allowing the interested customers from across the country to test drive the new Mahindra Thar.

2020 Mahindra Thar is launched at the starting price of RTs 9.80 lakh. The top-spec variant on the Mahindra Thar is available at Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The second-gen Thar is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine generates a top power of 150 PS and 300 Nm, while the 2.2-litre diesel engine puts out 130 PS and 320 Nm. Both of them come with a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox. Besides a long list of comfort and convenience features, the Mahindra Thar also receives a number of roof options including a fixed soft roof, convertible soft top, and fixed hardtop. In the current market, Mahindra Thar does not have any direct rival.
