The new 1.5-litre diesel variant of the Maruti Ciaz is all set to be launched in India this month. Bookings have been opened through NEXA outlets.

As reported earlier, the all-new Maruti Ciaz 225 DDiS diesel will hit the dealers in February 2019, marking the company's further step into the massive revision in its product portfolio. Confronted with the stagnation in car sales of January 2019, specifically 142,150 units figure recorded which is in about 11 per cent decline as compared to 10,751 units sold in Jan 2018; the celebrated carmaker is now on uncertain whereabouts to lose its well-built reputation. In the greatest effort, India’s largest automaker has embarked on an aggressive product plan in which will conduct major upgrades on its existing models as well as introduce many more new car launches in years to come. The new-gen WagonR and the Baleno facelift are two first athletes while the facelifted Maruti Ciaz is in the cards to come this month.

On speaking about the new Ciaz, the carmaker revealed that it would continue to be covered by the outgoing Ciaz’s skin but a new heart. It will be a higher-performance and more powerful Ciaz than ever before with the presence of the new 1.5-litre diesel engine option under the hood, thereinafter called the Ciaz 225 DDiS variant. Unlike the outgoing 1.3-litre diesel powerplant, the new oil burner will be developed in-house by the manufacturer.

The new engine is slated to deliver a more robust power of 94 bhp at 4,000 rpm and a whopping torque figure of 225 Nm at 1,500-2,500 rpm. This kind of mill is claimed to offer a higher fuel efficiency of 26.82 kmpl and paired with Variable Geometry Turbocharger as well which could improve the car’s drivability whole removing the turbo lag. Notably, the new 1.5-litre diesel burner will be BS-IV ready unit at the initial stage and later on comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission standards. It will be combined with a brand new 6-speed manual transmission, and no automatic version is expected. Meanwhile, the SHVS mild hybrid tech also holds a higher possibility to be ruled out from the updated 1.5-litre diesel Ciaz.

The thing is, along with the inclusion of the BSVI engine on the new Ciaz, the hardware needs to be enhanced that will hence involve a subtle pricing increment when compared to its rivals in the market. It is expected to get a higher price by Rs 1.5 Lakh over the BS-IV offerings.

The current Maruti Ciaz is on sale with four variants including the Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha which are all powered by a 1.3-litre D14A diesel and 1.5-litre K15B petrol units. The upcoming Maruti Ciaz 225 DDis diesel engine will be limited to the Alpha, Delta and Zeta trims exclusively while the lower Sigma variants will retain its 1.3-litre version before being discontinued by December 2019. Bookings for the all-new Ciaz have opened via the premium Maruti’s NEXA showrooms with a token amount of Rs 10,000. Together with the facelifted Ciaz, Maruti will soon release the updated Ignis in the Indian space this year.
