Suzuki has scheduled the unveiling of the all-new Alto in October 2019. Here is a digital rendering that gives us an idea about the evolved design that the 2020 Suzuki Alto is expected to carry

This October of 2019 will witness the presence of the new Alto hatchback from Maruti Suzuki. This also the 40th anniversary which marks the very first Alto made its debut in the same month in 1979.

Notably, the global spec Alto variants are entirely different from the ones in the Indian model. Maruti Suzuki has launched Indian-bound models separately with the aim to suit the Indian tastes as well as the specific road conditions. The all-new WagonR is an outstanding example of the stark difference between the international-spec model and the Indian-bound model.

As being referred in the speculative rendering, the next-gen Suzuki Alto will have an evolved design. Being underpinned from the Heartect platform, this all-new hatchback will take advantage of the lighter appearance in terms of weight and dimension. The use of the platform also contributes to safety as well. In general, the all-new Alto is likely to get a sporty design along with refreshed bumpers, headlamps, bumpers and body design.

Regarding the body design, the slightly boxy silhouette reflects an Ignis-like design language. Meanwhile, the front-end offers a sharper nose as well as the impressive hawk-eye headlights with DRLs. Since the Japanese-bound Alto was designed with an aggressive look, the all-new version of the hatchback is expected to be updated with the same design philosophy as well.

As for the powertrain, the next-gen Suzuki Alto will offer a 660cc engine with many power tunes. This is also the same engine equipped in the all-new Jimny SUV. This motor unit can produce 64hp and churn out nearly 100 bhp per tonne. Compared to the current gen, the outgoing version offers two engine options which are

  • 0.8-litre petrol engine

  • 1.0-litre petrol engine

The interior will come with a host of equipment

In which, the former can produce 48 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 69 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Meanwhile, the latter can generate 67 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The two engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the 1.0-litre engine will have the AMT as an option.

Regarding the safety package, the next Maruti Alto will be equipped with more safety kits and a better body structure compared to the outgoing version. The equipment includes standard ABS, the driver airbag, and also other features to meet the safety norms.

While the next-gen Suzuki Alto will debut in October this year, the Indian Maruti Alto will also receive a generation change by the end of 2019. As the one revealed, this October would be the global spec version, which will be rolled out in the global markets including Japan. Suzuki has also conducted a similar plan to the Wagon R previously.
