Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is quite busy preparing for the market launch of the Toyota Glanza on June 6. Prior to its launch, the Glanza has been spotted in the wild on the Indian roads, giving us the clearest look of the upcoming hatchback.

Basically, Toyota Glanza is a re-badged version of the Maruti Baleno which has been known as a premium hatchback in India. Externally, the new Glanza mimics almost all cosmetic details of the donor model, barring the unique radiator grille along with the brand’s badge.

The Toyota Glanza has been spotted in the top-end V trim, giving how the model looks in the flesh.

Moving to the inside, the Toyota Glanza bears no difference with the Baleno’s interior layout and even the upholstery and trim are totally identical. The infotainment system is likely to the SmartPlay Studio unit which is also integrated into the original car. In our obvious sense, it seems like the Japanese automaker is trying its best to keep the Glanza’s costs competitive, preparing for the aggressive competition in the segment. From this, we are much certain to say that the Glanza will be mechanically the same as the Maruti Baleno as well.

Various reports have suggested that the brand new Glanza will utilise a 1.2-litre VVT N/A four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out the power of 83 PS and the peak torque of 113 Nm. Furthermore, there are also some speculations about the arrival of the recently-unveiled 1.2-litre DualJet four-cylinder petrol motor that features a dual-battery mild-hybrid setup, which will, all the ways, come to produce 90 PS of max power and 113 Nm of max torque.

In all likelihood, power will be sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and a CVT unit as an option. Currently, the Maruti Baleno has been on sale with four variants comprising the Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. In the coming time, Toyota’s version of Baleno is more likely to be available in two grades only, namely G and V that takes huge inspiration from the donor car’s Zeta and Alpha variants, respectively. At launch, the Toyota Glanza will join the fight with the likes of Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20.
