The Volkswagen Ameo Corporate Edition has just gone on sale in India at an introductory price of Rs 6.69 lakh (petrol) and Rs 7.79 lakh (diesel) (all prices, ex-showroom, India).

The VW Ameo is available in five variants: Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline Plus, Highline and Highline Plus. The German auto manufacturer has now launched the Corporate Edition version of the vehicle, which has been equipped with all the features offered on the top-spec Highline Plus trim, including automatic rain wipers, a touchscreen infotainment setup which supports MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic temperature control, autocruise, etc. The safety feature list includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, etc. The vehicle is targeted at businessmen and corporate employees.

The VW Ameo Corporate Edition is targeted at business and corporate customers.

The Ameo Corporate edition is available with both petrol and diesel motors. While the former is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder motor which can deliver a maximum power of 76 hp against a peak torque of 95 Nm, the latter is a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit with a maximum power/torque figure of 110 hp against 250 Nm. The power from both of the two engines is sent to the front wheels of the vehicle through a 5-speed MT gearbox.

Commenting on the event, Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, Steffen Knapp stated: “Through the Ameo Corporate edition, we aim to offer globally renowned standards of safety, quality and fun-to-drive experience to all our customers.”

The Ameo will be the first and also the last sub-4-metre sedan manufactured by Volkswagen. The German automaker will not produce any second-gen Ameo or other sedans designed with a sub-4-metre restriction in length in the future. This has been directly confirmed by Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director of Volkswagen India. Earlier, in February, he told The Economic Times that,

“Nobody makes a global car to fit a length. […] We will not do any products like the Ameo. The Sub-4 metre sedan is a very, very tricky product. It works only when the hatch that it’s based on is significantly below 4 metres (in length), otherwise the aesthetics of the car won’t work.”

The company has introduced many versions of the Ameo to encourage its sales. For example, the Ameo Pace was launched in April 2018, the Ameo Connect Edition six months later, and the Black and White Edition at the start of April. Now, Corporate Edition has been launched with all the top-notch features. Volkswagen will reportedly discontinue the Ameo by March 2020 so a facelifted version is highly unexpected.
