Anand Mahindra Remembers Designer Of Last-gen Thar

Mahindra has recently unveiled the new-gen Thar in the Indian market. The off-roader is slated to go on sale by October 2, this year. The design of the new-gen model looks modern and posher, and it takes the legacy of the first-gen Thar to new heights. The first-gen Thar is a highly-capable machine off the road. It is highly loved by the Indian off-roading enthusiasts. The last-gen Thar was designed by Mr. Behram Dhabhar, who is popular around Thar enthusiasts as “Father of Thar” and “Mr. Thar”. Recently, his son Cyrus Behram Dhabhar tweeted a set of pictures of his father. These images were clicked during the initial phase of development of the first-gen Thar.

In the images, Mr. Behram Dhabhar is seen driving one of the three prototypes of the Thar. He drove it to the Deolali Fire Temple. The development team can also be seen standing on the rear portion of the SUV. To the tweet, Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra & Mahindra Group replied, “I have fondly saved this tweet. As the new Thar will soon be unleashed. I fondly remember Cyrus' father Behram, who was the most enthusiastic ‘car guy’ at M&M. He shared my passion for this product which is the ‘source code’ for all our SUVs & brought the Thar to life”.

Also, Mr. Mahindra concluded saying that we require more people like Behram, and he continues to inspire people even today. Mr. Behram Dhabhar is a well-known name in the Indian automotive industry. He worked for various auto giants like Mahindra, Tata, and Premier. He was constant at the rallies and other motorsport events. Sadly, he left for his heavenly abode in August 2016 but is still remembered by the Indian automotive fraternity.

Talking of the new-gen Thar, it is a step-up from the last-gen model in every aspect. It gets a new chassis, new suspension with coil spring on all-4 ends, revised body shell, and new engine–gearbox options. Also, the interior is redesigned as well and boasts of a posher ambience with modern amenities, like multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system and more.
