Ford EcoSport is on sale in the Indian market since the year 2013 without any significant update. However, it received a minor mid-cycle update in 2017. If rumours are to go by, Ford is developing a new-gen model of the EcoSport that will likely be going on sale by sometime next year. But, there’s no confirmation over the same from the Ford yet. The EcoSport is highly-loved by the Indian audience for the way it looks, the dynamics it offers, and its overall build quality. Also, Ford EcoSport owners are often seen sharing pictures of their rides post accidents to showcase its build quality. We too recently came across a set of images from the Instagram account of 20gears, where a Ford EcoSport can be seen crashed into an electric pole.
According to the caption of these images, the driver of the Ford EcoSport was trying to overtake another vehicle while he lost the control and crashed the car into a pole. With the effect of the collision, the pole fell on to the roof of the car, which was strong enough to keep the passengers safe and away from any injuries, whatsoever. Some witnesses reveal that all the three occupants of the EcoSport flew away from the spot in the night itself. Moreover, they claimed that the mishap took place due to sheer negligence and rash driving of the EcoSport’s driver.
Fortunately, the occupants walked out of the vehicle safely, but it could’ve ended disastrously. Talking of the safety aspect, the EcoSport comes with a lot of safety aids as standard fitment across the range. But, the India-spec car has never been tested for its safety rating. The EcoSport sold in the European market, however, was awarded a 4-star crash test rating by Euro-NCAP.
In the Indian market, the EcoSport can be had with either a 1.5L N/A petrol motor or a 1.5L turbocharged oil burner. The former is designed to put out a rated power and torque output of 122 PS and 149 Nm, respectively. The latter, however, can dish out 100 PS of peak power and 215 Nm of max torque. The transmission options on the EcoSport comprise of a 5-speed MT and 6-speed AT, while the latter being available in the petrol trims only. The prices for the EcoSport start at Rs. 8.19 lakh and go up to Rs. 11.70 lakh.
