According to the leaked rendering images surfacing on the internet, the Bayon looks closer to the crossover than a true SUV with a curvy silhouette instead of the conventional upright stance of SUVs. However, it still veers towards the rugged look with faux skid plates for both the front and rear end, extensive black plastic cladding. On the front end, the Bayon features a dominant grille and split headlight setup.

The side profile bears resemblances with the Elite i20, except for the slightly revised window line. It should be noted that the new SUV is based on the i20 and expected to replace the i20 Active. To the rear end, Hyundai has added some quirky design elements like bold kinks and unique arrow-shaped LED brake lights which are linked by a light bar running across the tailgates.

In terms of equipment, the Bayon will carry forward the features that are available on the Euro-spec i20. These features include a10.25-inch full-digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, BlueLink connectivity system, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, SmartSense driving assist system, ambient lighting, wireless charger, Smart Cruise Control, Intelligent Speed Limit Information, and more.

About the powertrains, it is expected that Bayon will share the same powertrain options with the i20. The existing i20 is available with two choices of engines, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. While the former is capable of making 84 BHP and 117 Nm, the latter is good for 100 BHP and 171 Nm. The turbocharged unit is supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The N.A engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The turbocharged unit, on the other hands, gets two transmission choices, a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT.

Expected to go on sale in the first half of this year, Hyundai Bayon will be offered as the most affordable Hyundai SUV for the European market.
