New-gen Mahindra Thar has already attained a lot of interest in the international markets. Below is a compilation of reactions of various international publications on the new-gen Mahindra Thar.
The home-grown automaker - Mahindra unveiled the new-gen Thar earlier this month. The off-roader will go on sale from October 2, after its official launch. It will be manufactured in India and will be exported to foreign markets as well. The vehicle is quite popular around the world, especially in the USA, where the Mahindra Roxor was launched earlier. Also, the Indian automaker has recently attained quite a lot of attention in the US market when a lawsuit was filed by FCA against Mahindra for the Roxor taking some inspiration from the Jeep Wrangler. Losing the case, Mahindra had to make alterations to the Roxor design. Therefore, the new-gen Mahindra Thar has caught the interest of the international media as well, and below is a compilation of the world’s reactions to the new Thar.
Jalopnik stated that the new Mahindra Thar, despite coming from the same source as the Jeep Wrangler, has its own unique selling point, which is the independent front suspension. Even a new Jeep Wrangler has a long way to go to sport this feature.
“The biggest, most dramatic change in the Thar—even if it’s one that’s not really visually obvious to most people—is that it now has independent front suspension. This would be pretty unthinkable on a new Jeep Wrangler, but the Thar, even though springing from the same original source as the Wrangler, is less saddled with the cultural burdens of a Jeep, so when Mahindra decided they wanted something that was more comfortable and quieter on paved roads, this decision makes sense.“
Being one of the most popular American car publication, The Fast Lane highly appreciate the all-round flexibility and off-road capabilities of the new Mahindra Thar. According to them, the comparison between the new-gen Thar and the Jeep Wrangler is unfair since they have a different platform, motor, and off-road equipment. Even the prices of the two cars have a wide gap with that of the Thar being nearly half of that of the Wrangler.
On the other hand, Carscoops thinks that the Mahindra Thar is a disappointing copy of the Jeep Wrangler from the inside out with many similar features. These include the circular headlights, the seven-slat grille, and the 7-inch touch screen infotainment system, circular air vents, and the four and six seating configurations, etc.
“Looking like a Jeep Wrangler knockoff, the Thar has a seven slot grille which is flanked by circular headlights. That’s very Jeep-like. It borrows heavily from the previous-generation Wrangler – even using circular air vents in similar locations. Drivers will also find a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, faux carbonfibre trim and a TFT display in the instrument cluster. Customers also choose between four and six-person seating configurations.“
