Kia Seltos is available with three engines with the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine being the most powerful. Let’s see how this capable engine performs in a 0-100 kmpl.

Kia is gearing up toward its launch in India. Before it even goes on sale, the Kia Seltos has built up hype among the car customers with over 30,000 bookings. The details of the Kia Seltos are all laid bare except for the price range. It will be launched on August 22. Kia Seltos will be available with a wide range of engine options including a 1.5-litre petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel engine as well as a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. Of all these engines, the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine is the most powerful unit with a maximum power of 140 PS and a peak torque of 242 Nm. This engine option comes with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox along with an optional 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The 7-speed dual clutch-1.4-litre turbocharged engine combination is one of most booked options by far. IndiaAuto will explore the real power of this powertrain via a 0-100 kmph sprint test.

Before the Kia Seltos is officially revealed, we have seen various content revealing the experience of the new hatchback, fueling excitement around this vehicle. In the video, the driver carries out the 0-100 kmph acceleration in 11 seconds which is higher than the official specs revealed by Kia Seltos. Under the standard test conditions, the Kia Seltos can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 9.7 seconds. As usual, the dual-clutch transmission unit is delivering a good job in gearshifting. In the video, the Seltos revs toward the 6,000 rpm then takes an upshift. With normal power input, the upshifting usually takes place at a lower rpm mark. However, Kia Seltos has delivered a decent performance here. This more powerful engine is only available at the GT Line variant.

Besides the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, Kia Seltos also comes with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that makes 113 Bhp and 144 Nm. Besides the standard manual transmission, this engine is also available with an optional 6-speed CVT (continuously variable transmission). On the diesel range, there is only one option which is an a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This diesel motor can make a maximum power of 113 Bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. This engine also comes with manual and automatic transmissions. The manual version features the same 6-speed manual unit while the automatic model is available with an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. With three different automatic options, Kia Seltos is the first models in India to offer that many automatic options.

About the fuel efficiency, Kia Seltos diesel manual version can deliver the best fuel efficiency in the range with a mileage of 20.8 kmpl. The diesel automatic could return a fuel mileage of 17.8 kmpl. On the petrol range, the naturally aspirated petrol engine has a fuel mileage of 16.3 kmpl and 16.4 kmpl for the manual and the automatic option respectively. On the other hand, the turbocharged engine can return mileages of 16.2 kmpl and 16.1 kmpl on the automatic and the manual version, respectively.

After launch, Kia Seltos will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks. The top-spec Seltos can be capable enough to fare against the vehicles from the above segment like the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Harrier.
