New Mahindra Thar Gets Overland-ready with Custom Hardtop & Rooftop Tent

Mahindra Thar in its second-gen avatar has managed to become one of the best-selling lifestyle vehicles in the country. While the last-gen model was offered as a bare-bone but super-capable off-roader, the new Mahindra Thar comes packed with modernity along with utilitarian attributes. It can take on the harshest of terrains with its capable platform and drivetrain. However, it misses out on a lot of things to go overlanding. What all? Well, folks at Bimbra 4x4 have managed to find out the missing equipment, and they've prepared a modified example of the new Mahindra Thar, which can go on long hauls in places that have no human interferences.

The Gurgaon-based tuning house has developed a custom hardtop for the new Thar, which has a load-carrying capacity of 250 kilograms. It comes with mounting points for roof racks as well. However, the modified has fitted a rooftop tent on this particular example. The Thar comes with forward-facing seats in its second-gen rendition. As a result, it boasts of an in-existent trunk. Since the second-row seats offer enough legroom, they can be moved forward to increase the boot space. Sadly, they are not slide-able, but folks at Bimbra 4x4 have developed channels via which the second-row can be slid back and forth. Also, the tuner has designed a custom snorkel for the Thar, which sits flush with the body and is functional.

Talking of the prices, these accessories do come at a cost. The custom hardtop is priced at Rs. 74,990, while the rooftop tent costs Rs. 89,990. The sliding channels for the second-row seats will set you back by anywhere in between Rs. 9,990 to Rs. 12,990. The snorkel, on the other hand, is priced in between Rs. 10,490 to Rs. 12,990, depending upon the functionality, as the tuner also offers a dummy snorkel.

With these modifications, the Thar certainly looks more purposeful and adventure-ready. Moreover, the Thar comes standard with a BorgWarner transfer case, low-ratio gearbox, and a mechanically-locking rear differential. The new Mahindra Thar is available with two engine options - 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.0L diesel. Both of these engines can be paired to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
