Mahindra XUV500 was launched in the country in 2011. It is nearly a decade old product now; therefore, it does with dwindling sales figures. In the month of September this year, Mahindra could only sell 595 units of the XUV500. When launched in 2011, Mahindra XUV500 boasted the longest feature list in its segment. Also, it was the first SUV from the indigenous carmaker that was built on a monocoque platform. Hence, it offered impressive safety standards for its time, which were praised on global levels. In fact, a 4WD variant of the XUV500 with side airbags bagged a 4-star crash test rating at Australian-NCAP’s testbed. It has also proved its mettle in real-life accidents. In the picture above, it can be seen that a Mahindra XUV500 met with an accident. The mishap took place when a truck collided with the XUV500 in a front offset manner. However, the truck toppled on its side after hitting the XUV500. The impact of the accident was massive. As a result, the XUV500 suffered some serious damages. It ended with a collapsed front axle assembly, damaged right-side fender, damaged bumper, and crushed driver’s door. Although, the occupants of the XUV500 did not suffer any injury, whatsoever. The truck driver, on the other hand, suffered minor injuries.

The XUV500 comes packed with a host of passive safety equipment. The list includes ABS with EBD, all four disc brakes, electronic stability program with roll-over mitigation, hill hold assist, hill descent control, six airbags, and tyre pressure monitoring system. To keep the occupants in utmost comfort, it also comes with 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Arkamys sound system, electric sunroof, automatic climate control with vents in all rows, automatic headlamps and wipers, keyless entry, push-button start-stop system and more.

Powering the XUV500 is a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine that is rated at 155 PS and 360 Nm. It can be had mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter-type automatic transmission. Talking of prices, Mahindra XUV500 starts at Rs. 13.56 lakh and top out at Rs. 18.96 lakh.
