The waiting period of the Suzuki Jimny in Japan is an all-time high, which shows the incontrovertible demand of the SUV. The automaker now has plans to introduce the MK4 Jimny in the Indian market. The carmaker has also showcased the off-roader at the 2020 Auto Expo and report suggests that Suzuki has plans to introduce the off-roader in our market by next year. Here’s what all that we know till now about the new-gen Suzuki Gypsy.

Will be offered in 5-door configuration
As per the reports, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the off-roader in 5-door configuration to make the car more practical and popular among the Indian buyers. The automaker will extend the wheelbase of the 3-door model, but its overall length will not be more than 4,000 mm.

Subtle tweaks in the styling
In terms of looks, the India-spec Suzuki Jimny will remain almost identical to that of a global model. The off-roader will feature the same body design, round LED projector headlamps, five-slat blacked-out grille and blacked-out bumper on both the ends. The cabin of the car should also be more or less the same. One can expect subtle cosmetic tweaks to be made on inside and outside.

 Familiar petrol engine
The new-gen Suzuki Jimny will be propelled by a K15B four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine, which puts out 105 PS of peak power and 138 Nm of twisting force. Transmission duties will be done by a 5-speed MT or options 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The same powertrain does duties in the Maruti Ciaz, XL6, Eritga and upcoming S-Cross.

Standard 4X4 system
Maruti Gypsy was the only car in Maruti’s stable which was offered with a 4X4 system. The automaker has now discontinued the off-roader in the Indian market, so we expect the carmaker to offer the new-gen Gypsy with a standard 4X4 system.

Made in India
Right now, the MK4 Jimny sold globally is manufactured at the carmaker’s production facility in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. In a few months, the off-roader will be manufactured in India as well at Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. Both the 3-door and 5-door models will be manufactured there.
