Toyota Urban Cruiser will be launched in the near future. The new SUV is based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza and here are all the details of the upcoming model

Toyota and Suzuki have formed a strategic partnership which allows two car manufacturers to exchange technologies and designs. Under this newly-established alliance, Toyota has already launched the rebadged version of the Maruti Baleno under the name, Toyota Glanza. This hatchback has gained a pretty positive response from the market. Following the Glanza, Toyota will soon come up with the second rebadged Maruti product. This time around, Toyota will enter the sub-four-meter SUV segment with a rebadged version of the Maruti Vitara Brezza. Toyota’s upcoming SUV will be named Toyota Urcan Cruiser and is likely to go on sale by the end of this month. Here are all the details of the upcoming model -

Exterior

Similar to the Toyota Glanza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will be essentially identical to its donor, the Maruti Vitara Brezza. For the Toyota Glanza, this strategy has received controversial responses from the customers. Some have criticized Toyota for bringing mostly nothing new to the table. Learning from the previous attempt, Toyota was expected to change the earlier approach. However, so far, going by the teaser images, it looks like the Urban Cruiser, like the Glanza, will only have a new grille. However, the distinctly Toyota grille should give the new Urban Cruiser a distinctive identity to instantly look different from the Maruti Vitara Brezza.

Interior

The interior of the Toyota Urban Cruiser will be basically identical to the Maruti Vitara Brezza’s cabin except, perhaps, for the use of a different interior colour scheme. While the Maruti Brezza’s interior is grey and black, the rebadged model could get a lighter interior colour theme.

Besides the similar layout, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will come with an identical feature package offered on the Maruti Brezza. It means that the Toyota SUV will get a 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay support, automatic LED headlights with LED DRLs, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control system, cruise control, push-button start-stop, and keyless entry.

Specifications

Under the hood, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will receive powertrain from its donor vehicle. Hence, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will be using the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, which makes 105 Bhp and 138 Nm. Some sources suggest that the Urban Cruiser will get a SmartHybrid mild-hybrid system for both the manual and automatic gearbox version. If it is true, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will have an upper hand over the Brezza since Maruti’s sub-four-meter SUV only offers this technology for the automatic version. Similar to the Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser will not come with a diesel engine option.

Price

Just like the Toyota Glanza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will be available in fewer variants than the Brezza. Apparently, Toyota will only offer the high-spec variants of the Brezza on the rebadged version. Therefore, the starting price of the Urban Cruiser will be higher than that of the Brezza. However, it is pretty much for sure that the Toyota will price the Urban Cruiser a tad lower than the comparable variants of the Brezza. At the moment, Maruti Brezza is priced from Rs 7.33 lakh to Rs 11.39 lakh. Toyota is expected to price the Urban Cruiser around Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. In addition, Toyota will also offer a 3 year/1,00,000 km warranty instead of the 2 year/40,000 km warranty on the Brezza.

Rivals

The Toyota Urban Cruiser will challenge the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. In addition, it will even rival the fresh faces that will soon enter the sub-four-meter SUV space. These will include the Kia Sonet and the Nissan Magnite.
