Take a look at this video where policemen stop a new-gen Mahindra Thar to check out its design inside-out and admire it.

The new-gen Mahindra Thar was launched in the Indian market on October 2, 2020. After being on sale for over three months now, it still manages to enjoy an elusive status as Mahindra has not delivered a lot of units. With a production capacity of around 3,000 units per month, the off-roader is already sold out till May this year. For new buyers, the waiting period extends to roughly nine months. Thus, the new-gen Mahindra Thar is not a common sight on the roads. Most of us have seen the car digitally, but taking a look at it in flesh gives the clear picture of its size. In fact, it manages to surprise almost everyone. Here’s a YouTube video that showcases a similar experience when policemen stopped an owner of the new-gen Mahindra Thar.

The policemen find it more car-like than the Mahindra Scorpio. Their observations made the Thar owner happy about his decision of making the purchase. Moreover, Mahindra has made big changes on the new-gen Thar in comparison to its last-gen counterpart. The styling is new and modern, but it also manages to preserve the Mahindra’s legendary Jeep pedigree.

The new-gen Thar is available with two engine choices. It can be had with either a 2.0L turbo-petrol motor that develops 150 Hp/320 Nm or a 2.2L oil burner that puts out 130 Hp/300 Nm. Transmission options on the new-gen Thar include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. It now gets a 4x4 transfer case along with a low-ratio gearbox and mechanically-locking rear differential as a standard affair across the range. However, only the top-spec trims come with brake-locking front axles. Prices for the 2020 Thar start from Rs. 11.90 lakh and go up to Rs. 13.75 lakh.
