Auto manufacturers love to create headlines with every new car launch. It may be the first car to offer a new feature, or maybe the best one to ever offer that feature. Even if it doesn’t, every automaker wants to have fanfare and celebration, or at least anticipation in the market. That leads to manufacturers teasing the cars, or sometimes just suggesting if a car might be launched sometime in the future. As such, there are plenty of cars that generate interest even before they are launched. Here is a list of the most highly anticipated Upcoming Luxury Cars In India In 2019

Upcoming Luxury Cars In India In 2019

Skoda Superb

The first car in our list of Upcoming Luxury Cars In India In 2019 is from a well-known brand of vehicles. Volkswagen and Skoda have recently announced their new merger, and they will now operate under a new banner, Skoda Auto VW India Pvt. Ltd. (SAVWPIL). While both the companies are a part of the Volkswagen Auto Group (VAG), they’ve had relatively independent operations in India before now. With this new merger and Volkswagen’s “India 2.0” strategy, we might see VW and Skoda become true premium car pioneers.

One of the most anticipated luxury cars from their upcoming line-up is the new Skoda Superb. While Skoda has decided to focus its efforts in small SUVs, like the Skoda Kamiq and Karoq, the Superb will still be the flagship model of the company in India, and is one of the most affordable luxury cars in the country. One advantage the premium German-Czech luxury saloon is that while it competes with Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, it undercuts both in price while offering superior build quality. It could even be compared to more premium cars like BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-class, and Audi A4.

The Skoda Superb is based on the same platform as the Audi A4, but features a lot less technology on the inside. Still, it has very premium interiors with, well, superb build quality. It is currently offered in 3 engine configurations: a 1.8 TSI, a 2.0 TSI, and a 2.0 TDI. On the pricing front, we expect the car to begin at around the ₹26 lakh mark.

Audi A6

The next car in our list of Upcoming Luxury Cars In India In 2019 is the all-new Audi A6. The current generation A6 has been in service since 2011, and eight years later, its now due for a comprehensive update. That isn’t to say it’s a bad car, because you’d be hard pressed to find a car that has stayed relevant for that long without an overhaul. The luxury, comfort, space, and refinement offered by this car are phenomenal. The problem is that its rivals, the BMW 5-series and the Mercedes Benz E-Class, have now inched ahead of the Audi in every manner imaginable.

The new generation Audi will have better everything; better exterior looks, better interior design, and better engines. It gets a larger front grill, sharper headlamps, better infotainment, and even more space on the inside, especially for the rear passengers. Internationally, the A6 comes with eight engine options, along with additional hybrid versions as well. In India, we expect to see a 1.8 or 2.0 litre TSI petrol, probably with a hybrid powertrain, along with a 2.0 or 3.0-litre diesel engine option. Prices are expected to begin at around ₹55 lakh.

Porsche Cayenne Coupe SUV

Porsche is one of the biggest sports car manufacturers in the world, and one of the most popular in India as well. The major part of its success can be credited to the brilliant Cayenne SUV, one of the first ‘proper’ performance SUVs ever, right after BMW X5, its oldest and closest rival. The Cayenne was extremely practical, owing to its proper 5-seater cabin and higher ground clearance, which made it a hit with Indian customers. You could ferry your family around in it, not worry about high speed-breakers or deep potholes, and still brag about your latest ‘sportscar’.

With changing times, however, Porsche Cayenne must change too. Owing to the extreme popularity of coupe-styled SUVs like BMW X4 and X6 among the wealthy, Porsche is set to do what Mercedes did a few years ago; introduce ‘coupe’ versions of its SUVs models. The Cayenne Coupe SUV is expected to launch late 2019. There will be two models available, a normal Cayenne Coupe, and a more powerful Cayenne Coupe Turbo. We expect only the former to make its way to India, at least for now. Expect prices to range between ₹ 1.3 and ₹ 2 crore.

Audi Q8

Next in our list of Upcoming Luxury Cars In India In 2019 is Audi's flagship SUV. The company’s priciest SUV might not be a number pusher, but it sure is a very popular car. Although not as big as the Q7 SUV, it is more expensive, more imposing, and much more luxurious. It is a coupe styled SUV, and only seats five, compared to seven on the larger Q7. Even so, the Q8 offers more space and comfort to all its five passengers. The interiors are vastly superior, even futuristic, and the angrier face and large front grill announce to the world your arrival even before you stop and step out of the car.

We expect the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre TDI diesels to make their way to India, coupled to an 8-speed TipTronic gearbox. The Q8 will compete with BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe. The prices will begin at close to ₹90 lakh during the launch.

Mercedes G-Wagon Diesel

One of the most iconic SUVs in Mercedes’ arsenal globally is the brilliant retro-modern Geländewagen, or G-wagon, as it is popularly known. The Mercedes Benz G-class SUV is unmistakably unique, has extreme off-road ability, and has been name-dropped in various Punjabi songs. A perfect recipe for success, right? Well, not quite.

The most popular SUV engine configuration in India is diesel, and G-Wagen doesn’t offer one right now. That will change with the launch of the ‘G 350d’ diesel trim. The prices are expected to be somewhere around ₹ 1.25-1.50 crore mark (ex-showroom), which although not cheap, is more affordable than the ₹2 crore G63 AMG currently on sale. The car will feature a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine that makes 283 bhp and an earth-shattering 600 Nm of torque.
