Volkswagen is about to make its big break in the Indian market. For this year, the German car brand is getting ready to pull out two upcoming SUVs.

Volkswagen is having a big plan for the Indian market this year. According to the earlier report, the German giant car firm are readying to add 2 SUVs in 2021. These Volkswagen upcoming SUV cars in India are meant to help the company build a strong portfolio of SUV models. It is also revealed that the German car brand is aiming to increase its market share to 3% in India. Currently, Volkswagen is offering two SUV options in India, the T-Roc and Tiguan Allspace. Within this year, Volkswagen will introduce a two new SUVs, including the Volkswagen Taigun – its biggest launch for this year, and, five-seater Tiguan. Upcoming Volkswagen SUV Cars in India 2021 - Volkswagen Taigun

As mentioned above, the Volkswagen Taigun is the key launch in 2021 for Volkswagen. This Volkswagen upcoming SUV car in India is a mid-size SUV. Introduced as the first model under the Indian 2.0 strategy, the Taigun will be based on the MQB-IN platform that is developed specifically for our market. Moreover, this model also comes with a higher level of localization, allowing Volkswagen to keep the price competitive.

The production-ready version looks mostly identical to the version showcased at Auto Expo 2020. There are a few updates including new 17-inch alloy wheels. The rest was carried forward from the near-production model, including distinctive headlights with the integrated LED DRLs, sporty air dam, prominent cladding, rear skid plate and connected taillights.

With a commitment to provide a high level of comfort and convenience for customers, the Volkswagen will load the new SUV with various features including a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, full-digital instrument cluster a smartphone connectivity system, ventilated front seats, electrically adjustable driver seat, wireless charging system, and more. Volkswagen will make use of a 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol. Being both turbo units, these engines are capable of delivering high power outputs of 114 BJP/175 Nm and 147 BHP/250 Nm, respectively. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be available on both engines. However, each will get a different automatic option. While the smaller unit gets a regular automatic gearbox, the larger one receives a 7-speed DSG.

Recently, Volkswagen has revealed the production-ready version of the Volkswagen Taigun. The upcoming SUV is expected to hit the showroom sometime around the festive season. According to the newest report, the Taigun will go on sale with a GT version with sportier styling. Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be priced from Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Tiguan

Last year, Volkswagen has discontinued the older version of the Tiguan and introduced the bigger version of this model – the seven-seater Tiguan Allspace. It is expected that this year, the German car brand will bring back the five-seater Tiguan under the BSVI form.

Volkswagen Tiguan will hit the Indian market sometime this year

The new model was revealed earlier. Accordingly, the new Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to get various updated styling elements, for example, swept-back LED matrix headlights and toned-down grille design, new 18-inch alloy wheels. There is also a new colour option called Night Shade Blue. On the inside, Volkswagen Tiguan will get features like a digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, a traction control, ESP, hill hold assist, and hill start assist.

The BSVI-compliant Volkswagen Tiguan will be available with a petrol engine only. The old 2.0-litre diesel engine that powered the old version was discontinued. Instead, a 2.0-litre TSI petrol unit, the same unit used on the Tiguan Allspace, will take the powering duty. The new petrol is capable of making 190 PS and 320 Nm. The power will be delivered to the four wheels via the 7-speed DSG gearbox. The Tiguan will be available exclusively with this powertrain only. At launch, the Volkswagen will continue to take on the likes of Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass, as well as the upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross. The price of this upcoming Volkswagen SUV car in India is expected to range from around Rs 28 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Apart from these Upcoming Volkswagen SUV Cars in India 2021, the carmaker has just brought a second batch of the Volkswagen T-Roc and Tiguan Allspace in the Indian market. Both of these SUVs were introduced last year and imported to our shore as CBUs. Only a limited number of these models were available and they were all sold out quickly. The success of these model has laid a bedrock for the upcoming Volkswagen SUV cars in India in 2021.
