Here's a drag race between the VW Polo 1.0-litre TSI and 1.2-litre TSI. The results are pretty interesting, so, check out the story and video embedded below to know more.

VW India has recently launched the BS6-compliant Polo with a new 1.0-litre TSI three-pot motor. The BS6-compliant 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI mill replaces the BS4 1.2-litre four-pot TSI engine and the 1.5-litre TDI oil-burner. The new TSI powertrain is only offered with the top-of-the-line variants, including the GT trim. Thanks to the more stringent BS6 emission norms, the German automaker had to discontinue the earlier turbocharged engine options (1.0-litre MPI is still on offer). However, the much-loved TSI version has received a smaller engine. Here is a video in which the reviewer explains all the pros and cons of the new 1.0-litre Polo TSI, and then he gets his friend to drag race with the 1.0-litre TSI model in his Polo 1.2-litre GT TSI.

The engine capacity of the new 2020 Polo is smaller than that of the BS4 model, but it produces more power and torque. As soon as the race starts, the Polo 1.0-litre TSI takes the lead and finishes the race with a clear lead. There’s a considerable amount of gap between both the cars.

BS6 VW Polo 1.0 TSI Vs BS4 Polo 1.2 TSI - Drag Race

The official acceleration figures of the new 1.0-litre Polo TSI are not yet revealed, but the BS4 VW Polo 1.2-litre TSI could sprint from 0-100 in just 9.7 seconds. The biggest difference between both of them is that the BS6 VW Polo comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic unit as option. The car seen in the video is the manual version. On the other hand, the BS4-compliant 1.2-litre Polo GT TSI was offered with a 7-speed DSG transmission. It's actually quite interesting to see a manual transmission-equipped vehicle outclass a car with a dual-clutch transmission, no?

Other than the addition of a new BS6 compliant motor, the new model features subtle cosmetic updates on outside as well as inside. The hatchback continues to feature automatic headlamps, traction control, rain-sensing wipers, flat-bottom steering wheel, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The new BS6 VW Polo is priced between Rs 5.82 lakh to Rs 9.59 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
