A test mule of Tata Tigor was recently spotted by our reader. Is it the diesel-powered variant? To find it out, read the complete report here.

Tata Tigor is a sub-4m compact-sedan from the indigenous carmaker. It competes with the likes of the Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Aura. However, like the Maruti Dzire, even Tiago misses out on a diesel engine option in the BS6 regime. Hyundai Aura, on the other hand, continues to offer the option of an oil burner. Recently, a test mule of heavily camouflaged Tata Tigor was spotted on Chennai-Avinashi highway by one of our readers – Sakthi Ganesh. This test mule is expected to be the diesel variant of the Tigor. Moreover, there’s hardly any visual change to take note of in comparison to the ongoing model. Thus, it is evident that Tata Motors is not planning to introduce the Tigor with another nip and tuck job.

Test mules of the diesel-powered Tiago have also been spotted doing test runs, earlier. Therefore, it can be concluded that Tata Motors is preparing to re-introduce the diesel variants of its sub-4m compact-sedan. In the BS-4 iteration, Tigor sported a 1.05L turbocharged diesel engine. This 3-pot setup was capable of putting out a peak power output of 70 PS and max torque of 140 Nm.

Earlier, most carmakers decided to stay away from diesel engines in their smaller offerings. However, they are slowly getting back to them as the demand for diesel-powered vehicles has not experienced any major dip.
