First-ever Mahindra Thar Sold, Costs Almost as much as a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

Auction for the first unit of all-new Mahindra Thar comes to an end as Mr. Aakash Minda from Delhi makes the final bid for Rs. 1.11 Crore. Read the complete report here.

Mahindra Thar in its second-gen avatar will officially go on sale from October 2, in the country. The first unit of the off-roader, however, is sold off by an auction today itself, for a final bid of Rs. 1.11 Crore, which is equivalent to the price of a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. The winning bid was by made Mr. Aakash Minda, who hails from Delhi. The amount raised by the auction will be donated to a charitable trust of the winner’s choice, out of three available options – Naandi Foundation, Swades Foundation, and PM Cares Fund. Also, Mahindra will add an equal amount from its side before making the final donations.

First Ever New Mahindra Thar Auctioned For Rs. 1.11 Crore

2020 Mahindra Thar will go on sale in a total of 3 variants, namely AX, AX Optional, and LX. The owner of the first unit will get to choose the variant of his choice along with the engine-gearbox combination and roof options. To upkeep the exclusivity factor of being the first unit, it will come with ‘#1’ badges in and around the cabin. Also, it will get special decals featuring the owner’s name on the exterior. On the dashboard, the new-gen Thar gets a VIN plate, which will also boast of the serial number – ‘#1’.

The 2020 Thar gets six colour options – Rocky Beige, Napoli Black, Galaxy Grey, Red Rage, Aquamarine, and Mystic Cooper. The winning bidder gets the leverage to opt for the one he desires. Talking of the roof options, 2020 Thar get three of them, which includes fixed soft top, convertible soft top, and fixed hardtop. Moreover, it comes loaded with a slew of features such as automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment unit, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel and more.

Also, there are two engine options on offer – 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel. Both of these engines boast of a 4-cylinder configuration. The petrol motor puts out a rated power output of 150 HP and max torque of 320 Nm. The diesel, on the other hand, is capable of developing 130 HP and 300 Nm as its rated output. The gearbox options on the 2020 Thar include a 6-speed MT and an Aisin-sourced 6-speed AT. Furthermore, the new-gen Thar comes standard with a 4WD layout with a low-range transfer case and mechanically locking rear differential.
