Ford Mustang is World’s Top-selling Sports Car

Ford Mustang has become the world’s best-selling sports car for six years in a row. It is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 gasoline mill.

As per reports, the American muscle car Ford Mustang has become once again the world’s top-selling sports car as well as a sports coupe. According to the research data from HIS Markit, the automaker retailed 80,577 units of Mustang coupe globally in 2020. The muscle car holds a 15.1 per cent share of the global sports coupe market. Back in 2019, Ford Mustang grabbed 14.8 per cent of the market share. These figures are enough to make Ford Mustang, the world’s best-selling sports coupe for six years in a row.

As per the carmaker, Ford Mustang is also claimed to be the world’s best-selling sports car for two straight years, but the carmaker didn’t reveal the exact sales figures for that market segment. Moreover, the sales of Bullitt and Shelby models were up by 52.7 per cent last year. For the 2021 model year, Ford is dropping Bullitt, Shelby GT350R and Shelby GT350, but the automaker is planning to add Mach 1 and will also keep the Shelby GT500 model. As per reports, Ford Mustang was also the top-selling sports car in the U.S. for the sixth straight years by selling 61,090 units of the car. The U.S. remains the biggest market for the Ford muscle car, representing about two-thirds of sales. The top three states in the U.S. for Mustang sales in 2020 is Texas (8,600 units), California (6,200 units) and Florida (5,864 units). Due to the pandemic, the overall sales were down by 15.7 per cent from 2019.

Talking about Ford Mustang, it derives power from a 5.0-litre V8 petrol mill, which puts out power and torque outputs of 396bhp and 515 Nm. Transmission duties are done by an automatic gearbox. It got discontinued in the Indian market before the implementation of the new BS6 emission norms. The carmaker will soon introduce the new BS6 Mustang in the Indian market. The updated model of the car will feature subtle cosmetic and feature updates on the outside and inside. One can also expect the automaker to introduce the electric version of the car in our market in the near future.
