Get Ready to Pay Fine for Not Wearing Seat Belts on Rear Seats Now

If you live in Delhi or planning to visit the Delhi NCR region in your car, then this piece of news is quite important for you. Recently, new traffic rules have come into effect. Under this rule, from now, it will be compulsory for the rear seat passengers sitting inside the car to wear a seatbelt. Failing to abode by this new rule will invite heavy fines against challans issued by Delhi Police. 

While issuing these new traffic rules, the Delhi Traffic Police said,“ Most two-wheelers do not have side mirrors, and some people intentionally remove mirrors. Due to which the risk of an accident increases to a great extent during driving. At the same time, the person sitting on the back seat of the car never attaches a belt. Due to this small negligence in a major accident, the passenger dies.”  

Police officials said that this new rule has also been mentioned in the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Act 1989. For now, the Delhi Traffic Police will start a campaign in Delhi to spread public awareness about the new rule and will also start fining the violators. According to the information received from the Traffic Police Department of Delhi, a challan of Rs 1,000 will be imposed for not wearing the rear passenger seatbelt in a car. Well, it is indeed is a great move by the authorities. It has been often observed that rear-seat passengers end-up with more injuries than the front-seat occupants as they are not held up to the seats with the seat belt. In an event of a crash, they tend to lose their place, which results in heavy injuries.

According to the World Health Organization, a seat belt and child restrains are among the most crucial steps a person can take to prevent injuries during a car accident. It says “An occupant’s chance of survival increases dramatically when appropriately restrained.”  Moreover, rear seat belts can prevent death by 25 per cent. The new traffic rules by the Delhi government are really good, and it can save hundreds of lives every year.
