Mahindra Thar Adventure Series Launched in the South African Market

Besides the growing domestic business, Mahindra also enjoys a presence in the global market. Recently, in the South Africa market, Mahindra has presented a limited edition version of one of its most popular domestic off-roaders, the Mahindra Thar. The special model has been called Mahindra Thar Adventure Series.

Compared with the India-spec version, the South-Africa-spec Thar Adventure gains some minor updates. The front bumper is revised a bit. For example, LED lights are added to the two ends of the bumper. Besides, a practical touch of red tow mounts is also put on the front bumper. To butch up the exterior design, a metal bar makes its way to the front façade of the Thar Adventure. It is even more rugged with the addition of a snorkel on the right side of the bonnet. The minor updates do not only enhance the tough appearance and also give the Thar more sense of practicality.

You can also notice, on the side of the Thar Adventure, two new side skirts as well. Plastic cladding is added to the wheel arches while the wheels themselves are now alloy aluminium. New bumper along with a new tow bar is given to the rear side.

Interiorly, this off-roader is cover in the black and beige theme. On the comfort front, the Thar Adventure comes frugal with simple functions like with manual AC, 12V socket and analogue instrument cluster. That’s said, for an off-roader, fancy features could not make much sense as in the regular city-running vehicles, and most customers could feel satisfied with such package.

New mechanical details are added to enhance Thar’s offroad capacity

What comes as the strongest point of the Thar might be its mechanical arrangement. Mahindra Thar Adventure Series receives power from a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine that could develop the maximum power of 105bhp and 247Nm of torque. A five-speed manual is packed as the standard transmission.

This Mahindra Thar Adventure runs on an all-wheel-drive system. To further its offroad ability, the Thar is given mechanically locking rear differential and independent front suspension. Moreover, the Thar’s new approach angle now measures at 44 degrees, allowing the vehicle to better tackle with patchy and bumpy roads, which will benefit its off-road capacity.

For the India market, Mahindra will introduce the new-gen Thar this year. With the new gen Thar, Mahindra will update the power-generating system to meet up with the upcoming BSVI emission norms. More details will be released when the launch approaches.
