Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the much-awaited Maruti Ciaz 1.5L diesel in India. The new engine is available only in top 3 variants- Delta, Zeta and Alpha.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has introduced the 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel-powered Ciaz for the C-segment in India, months after the facelifted Ciaz was on sale in August 2018. With the cumulative sale number of 50,000 units acquired in 2018, the latest iteration of Ciaz is expected to carry on the euphoric momentum of the preceding versions.

Maruti Suzuki launched the 1.5L diesel-sourced Ciaz this morning at the price starting from Rs 9.97 Lakh

The DDis 1.5-litre diesel engine can churn out a max power of 95.17 PS at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 225 Nm at 1,500- 2,500 rpm and for the very first time, a 6-speed manual transmission is offered on a Maruti model. As stated by the Indo-Japanese carmaker, the all-new Ciaz 1.5-litre diesel will release a low NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels yet a higher refinement when compared to its counterparts which are attributed to the utilization of a Dual Mass Flywheel as well as the optimization of compression ratio all the way to lessen the motor fluctuations.

The 2019 Maruti Ciaz 1.5L diesel sedan comes with a fuel economy of 26.82 km/l which is, says, less efficient than the existing D13A engine’s mileage of 28.09 kmpl. However, it is worth noting that the newcomer now misses out the company’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology but still cutthroats the likes of Honda City 1.5L i-DTEC with 25.6 kmpl in terms of fuel efficiency stakes.

As the imminent BSVI emission regulations are around the corner to take effect, the existing D13A diesel engine option will more likely to be ceased from the production line by the end of March 2020. The new DDiS225 oil burner, on the other hand, is BSIV ready and it shall be upgraded to comply with the stringent norms ahead of the April 1, 2020 deadline.
