New Tata Altroz Teaser Drops, Hints Turbo-petrol Trim's Launch on Christmas

Earlier this year, Tata Motors has launched its new premium hatchback called Tata Altroz. In less than a year, the Tata Altroz has become one of the most popular models on Tata’s range. Coming up next, Tata is planning to launch a new version of the Tata Altroz on this Christmas. Ahead of the launch, Tata has dropped a new teaser for the upcoming new variant.

The teaser video features the hashtag #YourSantaAltroz, indicating that the new model will be launch around Christmas. As per the teaser video, it is unlikely that the upcoming Tata Altroz variant will come with any styling update.

It is not sure if the new variant is just a special edition of the Altroz or it is the long-awaited turbocharged petrol variant. Tata Motors has been carrying out testing on this variant for a while now. The upcoming new engine is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit which is capable of churning out 110 BHP and 140 Nm.

The new turbo variant will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Some reports suggest that this engine might be offered with a Punch-sourced 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Moreover, the gearbox will be sourced from Lumax while other important components will be provided by Schaeffler. The same DCT gearbox is expected to be available on other vehicles on Tata’s line-up in the future.

Tata Motor is about to launch a new variant for the Altroz 

According to Tata, the new DCT unit is “more sophisticated” than other outgoing AMT options. What’s more, the new gearbox is said to be more affordable than other DCT or torque converter units.

At the moment, Tata Altroz is on sale with two engine options which are 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel. These engines are powerful enough to put out 85BHP/113Nm and 89BHP/200Nm, respectively. A 5-speed manual transmission is offered as standard on both engines, and there is no automatic gearbox on sale.

Tata Altroz is currently available in five trims, including XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ (O). These variants are priced from Rs 5.44 lakh to Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition, Tata also provides optional packs for customers at an added premium. Recently, the carmaker has also introduced a new XM Plus trim of the Altroz, which is priced at Rs. 6.60 lakh.
