The Magnite is a make or break model for Nissan in the Indian auto market. And it looks like it is paying dividends as it jumps ahead of the likes of Ford and Volkswagen in sales.
After months of low sales numbers, Nissan has finally started rising up the sales charts with the help of the new Magnite compact SUV. The Magnite is the most affordable vehicle in its segment, and it already has over 33,000 bookings. As per reports, Nissan has sold 4,527 units that see the Japanese automaker overtake brands like Ford, MG, Volkswagen, Jeep, and Skoda. Currently, Nissan is the ninth highest-selling automaker in India, which is surprising when you realize they offer only two products – The Magnite and the Kicks.
Nissan launched the Magnite in India with an introductory pricing of Rs 4.99 lakh. Though the base variant’s price has increased to Rs 5.49 lakh, the rest of the range is priced the same. Variant to variant, the Magnite is cheaper by over Rs 1.5 lakh when compared to its segment rivals. The Magnite has seen a huge demand in India and currently waiting periods stretch to multiple months. Earlier, Nissan had stated that the Magnite recorded over 5,000 bookings within the first few days of launch, and with over 33,000 bookings currently. Nissan will be selling a large number of the compact SUV in the coming months as most of them are yet to be delivered.
The Nissan Magnite comes loaded with features like a multi-functional steering wheel, the centre-console gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-built Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 7-inch TFT instrument console, and around view monitor display on the screen. It also gets a push-button start/stop system, power windows, automatic AC, rear AC vents, cruise control, etc. The higher models get extra features like a height-adjustable driver’s seat and a rear-seat armrest with 2 cupholders. Nissan is also offering an optional Tech Pack on the top models with even more creature comforts like a wireless charger, high-end speakers from JBL, an air purifier, ambient mood lighting, and puddle lamps.
The new Nissan Magnite will be launched with two powertrain choices, a 1.0 litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol which makes 81 PS/96 Nm of peak power and torque figures and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The other choice is a 1.0 litre 3-pot turbo-petrol makes figures of 100 PS/160 Nm with the 5-speed manual and 100 PS/152 Nm when paired to the CVT auto.
