One can’t deny that the Mahindra is among the most utilitarian off-roading vehicles in India so far so no wonder, it creates quite a huge hype among the car freaks when Mahindra announced the launch of the new-gen Thar in the Indian market. The new Mahindra Thar 2020 has received good reactions for its enhanced design, comfort and convenience quotient along with an automatic transmission that makes it a contemporary SUV for the urban traffics. A question is, however, how the new Thar can perform off the roads has long-emerged in people’s minds. Thankfully, people have had a chance to take the new-gen Thar out for off-roading, here’s a video where you can see the Thar enjoys playing around in the sand dunes as easy as falling off a log. Check out the video here.
The new Thar featured in the video is the Diesel AT which is the top-end variant of the model. Therefore, the Thar is brimmed to the gills with all the bells and whistles needed for the most confident drive. The driver was doing some drifts at high speeds along with some tests on the wheel articulation and long-range transfer case of the new Mahindra Thar. While doing the wheel articulation test, the driver also tried to check out the wheel locking of the vehicle. As can be seen from the video, the 2020 Mahindra Thar performed extremely well on the sand dunes. We could see the differential locking worked seamlessly when the guy was trying to climb a steep slope, again, with sand. Also, the Thar can be seen handling the hill climb with ease in 4H (four-wheel-drive high range) and 4L (four-wheel-drive low range). It looks like the new Thar was having so much fun in the sandy playground, doesn’t it?
It is worth noting that the 2020 Mahindra Thar is loaded with a lot of features like hill climb control and hill descent control that aid the car pretty much in the off-road driving performance. Some other outstanding features in the new Thar can be named as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, real-time Adventure statistics, rear parking sensors, dual airbags and roll-over bar system, etc.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar is powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that pumps out 130 BHP of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque and a 2.0-litre petrol engine that churns out 150 BHP/ 320 Nm of torque. Both the mills are available with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter combined with a 4x4 drivetrain system alongside low-range transfer case gearbox as standard fitments.
The new Mahindra Thar comes in two trim levels – AX and LX. While the AX trim can be had with a 6-seater configuration, the latter comes with a 4-seat layout. At present, the 2020 Mahindra Thar is going on sale in the price range of around Rs 9.80 – 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With all the good traits and prowess, the new-gen Mahindra Thar is seeing a steep rise in demand that causes a soar in the waiting period. The all-new Mahindra Thar joins the competition with the BS6 Force Gurkha that is all set to arrive this Diwali.
