2020 Mahindra Thar pitted against the Toyota Fortuner in a game of Tug of war. Take a look at this video for interesting results.

SUVs are known to have enough grip and torque all the time, as they come equipped with torquey turbo-diesel engines and capable 4X4 drivetrains. There are a lot of SUVs on sale in the Indian market, but only a handful of them are offered with the hardware of handling the terrain less travelled. Two of the best SUVs in this business are – Toyota Fortuner and 2020 Mahindra Thar. However, the Fortuner cost twice as much as the top-spec Mahindra Thar. Interestingly, it is the Mahindra Thar that comes with more off-road centric equipment and specifications. But which one these SUVs will win the game of tug of war? Well, do not worry, as we recently came across a video on the YouTube channel of HEAT 17 that packs in the results.

In the video, diesel trims of the 2020 Mahindra Thar and Toyota Fortuner can be seen tied to each other via a tow strap to begin the game of tug of war. However, the host sheds some light on the specification of both of these SUVs first. The Mahindra Thar comes with a 2.2L oil burner that develops a peak power output of 130 Hp and max torque of 300 Nm. Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, produces a rated power output of 175 Hp and 420 Nm of max torque. The cars used in this video are the 4X4 trims of the respective models, but it is the Fortuner that uses a 6-speed AT here, while the Thar gets a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Moving over to the test, the first attempt is made in the 2H mode. In this attempt, both Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Thar manage to stick to the spot with their wheels spinning fast. Thus, the host calls it a draw. The second attempt was made with 4H engaged in both the vehicles, and the Toyota Fortuner won this round. In the third and final attempt, 4L was engaged in both Mahindra Thar and Toyota Fortuner. However, the result remained identical to the second round. With these results in hand, it can be said that the higher weight and power & torque outputs of the Toyota Fortuner helped it in winning this competition.
